Youth Christmas Service Projects

If you are planning activities for young men and young women during this month you may want to take advantage of the many service opportunities that are available during the Holiday season. Giving service is a great way to help the youth remember the true meaning of service. Here are five activities that you may want to consider doing during the holidays.

1) You may want to make cookies and brownies for the less active members of the class. You can then go around and visit the members one activity night. You should keep the visits fairly short, but you should make sure to express the fact that you miss seeing them at the activities. This is an easy way to reach out, and since it is the Christmas season it may seem more natural to stop by.

2) You can assemble family home evening kits for several less active and new member families. An easy theme is the story of Christmas. You could also focus the story on Christmas giving. After you assemble a lesson which should include scriptures, a story and an activity or two you can take them around to the members homes while you are caroling. You may also want to include refreshments for the activity.

3) Another great activity is to host a Christmas dinner for the elderly in your ward. This time of year is often lonely for the widows and widowers. You can plan a nice menu for and have the youth serve the dinner. You may also consider having youth sing carols or perform music as well.

4) You can also go caroling at a local nursing home. Many of the residents will line up to hear you sing as you walk the halls. You may want to make homemade cards to distribute as you sing as well. This is another way to bring cheer to those who need it most.

5) As winter weather sets in you may want to have projects set up that will help ward members clean up the snow and get around. This would be of particular help to those who can not do it themselves. This is just one more way that you can help those in need this time of year.
