Young Women: Virtue as a Value

Virtue was recently added as a value to the Young Women’s theme, as well as to the Personal Progress award. This value focuses on personal worthiness and purity. When it was introduced the Young Women’s president encouraged all women of the church both in Young Women’s and Relief Society to work towards completing the requirements to pass of the value. This would be especially helpful if you work with Young Women or if you have a young woman in your home. The scripture associated with this value is Proverbs 31:10: “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is … Continue reading

The church leaders have announced that they are changing the young women’s theme by adding a new value to it. The new value will be virtue. This will help the young women to focus more on being pure and having the psirt with them at all times. The Young Women’s presidency will announce changes to the Personal Progress materials as soon as they are available. This is a welcome addition to the young women’s theme. Young Women: Integrity

The final value in the Personal Progress book is Integrity. The theme for this value is “I will have the moral courage to make my decisions based on my knowledge of what is right and wrong.” The scripture is Job 27:5: “Till I die I will not have my integrity removed from me.” This is a wonderful value that will help your daughter develop strong and good characters. The value experiences for integrity really focus on helping the girls to understand what integrity is. There are several spiritual accounts that the girls should read. They are also encouraged to interview … Continue reading

Young Women: Standing for Truth and Righteousness

The motto for the Young Women organization is “Stand for Truth and Righteousness.” This is a great motto for anyone. It can be easily applied to the daily lives of each young woman. It is important to talk to the young women about what it means. As you discuss what it means to stand for truth and righteousness you may talk about the big moments when you may be called to make a stand. The girls may be called on to defend the church. They may also be called to stand up for the standards of the church. It may … Continue reading

General Conference from the Past: Strengthen the Feeble Knees – Marvin J. Ashton

Elder Marvin J. Ashton delivered this address which was printed in the November 1991 issue of the Ensign. You can read it in its entirety here, but I offer the following highlights. He says he’s always been intrigued by the spiritual expression, “feeble knees.” While this makes us think of knees that aren’t physically strong, he also believes that it refers to fear, as we find it in Isaiah 35:3-4: 3. Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. 4. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come … Continue reading

Can Casanovas Ever Really Commit?

Yesterday on the Today show they had a guy on named Paul Janka, a self-proclaimed “serial seducer.” Meredith Vieira interviewed him, and I was cracking up because she tried to maintain journalistic integrity. She tried not to form an opinion of him and to present the matter impartially, but I got the distinct impression she didn’t think too much of him. I didn’t either. He claims he’s had over 100 bedroom conquests and doesn’t feel bad about loving and leaving them. He says he was honest with his intentions up front and they knew what to expect. His Philosophy He … Continue reading

Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 10:18-22

Nephi has been telling us that through faith and the gift of the Holy Ghost, we can receive revelation from the Lord, and this has not changed from times of old until today. 18. For he is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him. God is the same today as He was thousands of years ago. The age of miracles has not passed. He will still minister unto us the same way He did the Israelites … Continue reading

Accountability

Every person who comes to this earth is given the gift of free agency, or free will. God will never force any man to heaven. He must allow us all to choose for ourselves. I can certainly think of worse things than being made to inherit Celestial glory, but that’s not how it works—He’ll only give it to us if that’s what we want. As we make our choices every day, we have a set of results that will come about because of those choices. The results of good choices lead us to happiness, while the consequences of bad choices … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 22

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson 22 for those in Senior Primary and Sunday School classes. The Junior Primary’s topics are based on lesson 21. You may need to adjust your discussions to match the schedule that your ward is on. Remember to keep the discussions upbeat and positive. If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about his feelings. The children discussed that they can choose how they feel. They learned proper ways to express their feelings. They learned that helping others can help them to feel happy. The children learned the story of … Continue reading
