Young Mothers: Living in the Momentby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 14 Apr 2008 11:38 PM I thought that Elder M Russell Ballard's talk "Daughters of God" was very poignant. This may be because I am a young mother, and I have been struggling with balancing my family's needs with my own and other outside needs. I thought that I would write about each of the four points that he made specifically to mothers over this next week. Elder Ballard's first point was about living in the moment and enjoying that moment. This counsel should be taken to heart. It is so true that the small daily moments are the ones that we can find joy in. The other thing I thought interesting was that the Elder Ballard did not say that all of our moments are going to be joyful. This really made me feel better. Often I become so caught up in creating the perfect home, and family that I never stop to find the joy in the moments. Over the last week, I've really focused on finding those moments. The hugs that my children give me and the funny things that they say. I've also found that blogging for my family has helped me to find the moments, since I'm looking for little treasures to share with them. Additionally it is important to recognize that your children will only be at this developmental stage for a short time, and so the frustrating moments will not last too long either. It is important to not become frustrated when one child can't grasp something yet, because that will change too quickly. I already miss my oldest as she has begun attending kindergarten. It makes my time at home with my other two even more precious. Recording these moments in your journal, on a blog or in your scrapbook, can help you to remember the positive parts of being a mom. It can be helpful to flip through these on a rough day. It can improve your mood and help you remember why you are doing everything you are for your children.
