Make Your Choice

It is not uncommon to have moments in your life when you are in a pivotal situation. The choice to believe the gospel and to live its principles is one of those moments. You may make the choice once in your life or you may come to crossroads at a few different times in your life. I was born into an LDS family and grew up a member of the church, but there was a conscious point where I decided to embrace the gospel and make it a part of my life. Leading up to my decision, I investigated other … Continue reading

Finding Hope in Difficult Times

When you are faced with difficult times, it can be difficult to find the motivation to keep moving forward. It can seem as though you have been abandoned or that your prayers are not being heard. Hope is an essential part of the gospel. It gives us the strength we need to continue forward on a daily basis. It gives us a glimpse of the future and a something to strive for. So how do we find hope in difficult times? It is important that hope comes as we put our trust in the Lord and have faith that He … Continue reading

Relief Society: Being Strong in Faith

In last October’s General Conference, Sister Julie B Beck gave a talk about being strong and immovable in three areas. The first area that she focused on was faith. Recently I attended a Relief Society lesson, which reviewed the principles in this talk, and it reminded me to go back and think about them. This talk really touched me as I listened to it, and I can see ways that I can still work to apply its teachings to my life. The first principle that Sister Beck speaks about is faith. She lists specific things that we can do as … Continue reading

Searching for Blessings

This year has been one of my most difficult ones. I have blogged about some of my trials over the year, since I have learned from them. At tithing settlement yesterday, my bishop pointed out that we should look for our blessings. We were not discussing the difficult things that my family has been through the past year. At the time I thought to myself “Yeah right! What blessings?” As we drove home, I turned to my husband, and suddenly I began to see all the blessings in our lives. We have come through a difficult year, with our faith … Continue reading

To Buy a Home or Not

Is it financially better to own a home or rent? This is an interesting question. Let’s put it to the test. To truly compare, let’s look at the benefits and costs of each one. Then you will have to balance these out with your own individual goals and priorities. Home Ownership: Benefits: • Income tax breaks on mortgage payments. • The money you spend each month goes towards your investment dollars, not someone else’s. • A house can be a good asset for your total net worth. • A home can often be leverage for other borrowing. • Owning a … Continue reading

Is It Okay To Be Angry With God? – part 2

In my last blog we looked at the question, is it okay to be angry with God? We looked at some Old Testament characters that were angry. Today we’ll look at some people from the New Testament. When we come to the New Testament and the sisters Mary and Martha, we find, in concern for their brother when he was sick, they sent to Jesus to come and help, John 11:3. Instead of immediately rushing to their aid, even though he loved this family, Jesus delayed another two days before setting out, John 11.6. By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus … Continue reading

Hope

When it comes to persevering through a trial, hope is one of the most important things that you can have. Faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and in the plan of salvation allows you to hope. When we have the correct perspective we know that things will work out eventually and that we will have the strength to endure the trials that we are facing. Peace will come as you focus your hope on the eternal and understand that Heavenly Father does know the best outcome. There are times when you may be hoping, praying or wishing for the … Continue reading

Putting God in a Box

Are you trying to put God in a box, telling Him how He should act, what He should do in your current situation and how He should resolve it? I think it’s something we’ve probably all been guilty of at times. Recently we had a guest speaker come to our church. Keith Fellows is involved with SECET and teaches Christian Education at our local high school Vincentia High. I’m thankful that in Australia, we still have the opportunity for Christians to go in to state schools and share God’s Word with those who may never go to church or hear … Continue reading

Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 7:6-15

Nephi and his brothers have returned to Jerusalem at their father’s request and the Lord’s command to ask Ishmael and his family to join them in the wilderness. Ishmael had several daughters and they would make good wives for the sons of Lehi. Ishmael has agreed and now the group is on their way back to the tents of Lehi. 6. And it came to pass that as we journeyed in the wilderness, behold Laman and Lemuel, and two of the daughters of Ishmael, and the two sons of Ishmael and their families, did rebel against us; yea, against me, … Continue reading
