Preparing for Your Primary Program

I can’t believe that another year has come for us to do a primary program. Last year, it was the first time I had ever written a primary program. But, this year, I am excited for the program, and can’t wait to see what the kids are going to do. We started by organizing all of our songs. We are sticking to the songs listed in the outline for the year with just a few changes. Our songs that we are going to sing are: As a Child of God (which is our new song for the year) Choose the … Continue reading

Writing a Primary Program

This weekend was such a great weekend for many reasons. Mainly because it was general conference weekend, and I got to hear some great, spiritually uplifting talks which I will blog more about later. But, I also love the weekend that I get to just hang out all day at home with my family and relax a little from the stress of callings, and making sure everyone gets up and gets to church on time. But, this weekend, I had a task hanging over my head that I finally completed, and I’m so glad I did! I made it a … Continue reading

Primary Time: Sharing Time Theme October 2007

The sharing time theme for October is “I show my faith in Jesus Christ when I share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before your men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” There is no specific song this month since the Sacrament program is soon. The theme is broken down into four basic principles. The first principle talks about being an example to others. The second principle speaks about how sharing your testimony with others makes it stronger. The third principle encourages the … Continue reading

Family Home Evening For a New Arrival

Last night, we had a family home evening for the kiddos. My husband and I take turns because our kids are so little that they can’t really prepare a lesson yet. It was a simple one, but it was pertinent to our lives right now. When preparing a family home evening for kids that are so little, it is challenging. My son, who is 2 1/2 has a very short attention span these days. If it’s not making noise, a super hero, or flashing bright lights, he’s not interested. But, last night I was able to captivate them for a … Continue reading

A Sunday Activity

As with many typical Sunday afternoons, my husband and I were looking for something to do to get the kids’ energy out. We hopped in the car and went down to temple square. It is a great place to visit for a Sunday activity with small children. Our kids love running around and looking at the pretty flowers and fountains, it’s free, and it is Sunday approved. Do you ever wonder what to do with small kids on Sunday afternoons? Sometimes we don’t have family to visit with, and we have sat around keeping the sabbath day holy all we … Continue reading

October 2011 General Conference- Elaine S. Dalton Address

“The most important thing a father can do for his daughter is love her mother.” -Elaine S. Dalton Sitting lazily in our backyard swing listening to conference on Sunday morning with our kids semi-listening, that quote above struck me, and I couldn’t help but poke my husband and say, “Are you listening?” I know we’ve all done it. We’ve all made sure that our husbands listen to what is important, but I couldn’t help but love this talk. We have one daughter, and she is our oldest. I know that she holds a special place in my husband’s heart. And, … Continue reading

Mathitudes

My daughter is unintimidated by math. Why should she be intimidated by it anyway? Math is just numbers, and numbers are everywhere. (Ok, yes, I know that there is a little more than that to math, but not in the primary years). The other day she was watching a video from the library and I was sitting there with her. The video turned out to be about a math contest, and the prevailing message of the entire 30-minute long segment was that math was something for brainy people, not for the general population. I don’t get it. We assume that … Continue reading

Oprah’s “Why Men Cheat” Controversy

Last week Oprah did a show called “How to Affair-Proof Your Marriage: Why Men Cheat Part 2.” I don’t know if she had the “Part 2” planned or not. From the previews it kind of sounded like they did it in response to all of the responses Part 1 generated. It was the previews that caught my attention. Since I wasn’t going to be able to watch the show when it aired, I recorded it. Saturday while Wayne and I were hanging out to nurse Murph, he was flipping through our recorded programs on the DVR and saw the Oprah … Continue reading
