The family is the central unit to the church. When you realize that, you should also realize that the family should have the focus of teaching your children about the gospel. The church has instructed us to have family home evening, family prayer and family scripture study to do these things. There are are all things that we can do to teach our children the gospel.

There have been times when my family is really focused on the gospel and times when they are not so much. When we make the gospel and Christ the focus of the family everything runs a little bit smoother. Bedtimes are easier, and the fighting decreases. Helping everyone in the family focus on the gospel just makes the home more peaceful.

A shift in your daily schedule is a great time to make the changes in your daily family life. This make sit easier to form new habits. The summer will give you time to iron the wrinkles out of your routines before school starts again. Although your kids may balk at first, they will appreciate the time you spend together. Sometimes adding additional structure such as learning a song or memorizing a scripture during these times can help the entire process work better.

Additionally it is important to realize that as your children grow and as your schedules change you may need to adjust your family scripture study schedule to better meet your family's needs. High schoolers have different hours from preschoolers, and different attentions spans. Keep trying until you discover a schedule that will work for you and your family.

You should also work on creating an environment at home that invites the spirit in. This means monitoring the music, the noise level and cleanliness of your home. You should treat your children with respect and encourage them to treat each other with respect as well. This will allow the spirit to be a part of your home.
