Do You Record General Conference?

For a few years now, we have recorded general conference. Usually it is because during the Saturday session we might be busy with other things, and always think we will come back to it. Well, this year, we were out of town during general conference, and did not get to hear much except for President Monson’s announcement about missionaries shortly before we lost radio coverage in the car. So, I have been really grateful that we recorded it this year. And, to make it even better, we are actually watching those recordings! My husband had the idea that we would … Continue reading

A Heart Happy General Conference Weekend

This past weekend was general conference, and it was a lovely weekend full of laziness and spiritual inspiration. I have a bad cold I’ve been battling for a few days, so I was thankful to be able to stay in my PJs and watch conference at home. I had some plans to do a lot of house work, but fortunately, I didn’t do any of it so that I could take it easy since I was sick. It was a blessing in disguise. I was more focused on the talks, and was able to soak up a lot of the … Continue reading

Ways to Study General Conference Talks

In my current ward, they have an incentive for the Relief Society sisters to re-read all the General Conference talks before the next General Conference-Food! It’s really a genius idea. They reward the sisters that re-read all of the Conference talks in the Ensign with a breakfast before the next General Conference starts. This is the first time I have ever seen this done in a ward, and I’m loving the idea. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the memo for the April conference, so when they reminded everyone a few weeks before the breakfast, I felt there was no time to … Continue reading

Top 10 Ways to Tell You’re an LDS Technogeek

After we hooked up my laptop to the television so that we could watch General Conference at home via the Internet, I concluded that my husband and I are both something of a technogeek. Surely I’m not the only person afflicted with this condition. To help others suffering from similar afflictions to identify themselves, I have put together a list. Sadly, I can easily check off most of these as occurring in my life. I even have a few blogs on the subjects at hand! So here it is; the top ten ways you can tell if you, too, are … Continue reading

Did You Miss Conference?

Yesterday, we talked about some great steps towards growing from General Conference. However, what if you were unable to attend all four (or five, if you are a priesthood holder) sessions? This is one of those things that I love about the world we live in today – technology. In fact, some of this technology enabled me to keep my three kids (all under the age of six) from terrorizing everyone else during Conference this weekend. There are so many ways that we can listen to Conference today. Audio archives of General Conference are already available on MP3. For more … Continue reading

General Conference: “The Power of Patience”

In his talk “The Power of Patience” Elder Robert C Oaks speaks about the importance of developing patience. He opens his talk by referring to Mormon’s description of charity, which can be found in Moroni 7. He points out that four of the eleven characteristics of charity involve developing your patience. Elder Oaks then goes on to point out that Job was an excellent example of patience for each of us. He also goes on to talk about the example that Christ set while he was on the earth. He showed patience when he suffered the Atonement and was crucified. … Continue reading

The New LDS.Org

Beginning November 30th, the church website will be switching over to the new LDS.org. Have you checked that out yet? One of the features I have started playing around with is the scripture study tools online. In the days of the Blackberry, IPhone, and countless other devices that we have to pull up our scriptures online, this is a pretty cool new feature. You have to create a log in ID to access these features. This is quick and easy, but you may need your membership number to do it. I did mine a long time ago, but if you … Continue reading

Living Your Life Deliberately

I heard a talk in sacrament meeting this past Sunday that got me thinking. Actually, it was one particular aspect of this talk that really caught my attention. The speaker had been talking about how he was looking through some old journals of his from several years ago, and was not happy to see that he was still struggling today with the same problems that he was trying to overcome several years ago. This happens to so many of us. We become complacent in our spirituality. He said one thing thought that really made me think. He said “You’ve got … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review July 14th – 19th

Just in case you were too busy to join us during the week, here’s a summary to get you all caught up on our doings here in LDS. We began the week with “The Sanctity of the Chapel,” a reminder that our chapels are not merely just another room in the church, but are holy rooms and should be treated with reverence. We then got caught up-to-date with our lessons in our weekly “Dinner Discussions.” “Gaining a Testimony of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost” is a report on the General Conference address given by Robert D. Hales, … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review – July 7th-12th

Welcome to our Week in Review! If you didn’t have the chance to join us every day here in LDS, here’s your opportunity to get caught up. We started off the week with “Dinner Discussions,” which helps keep us on track with our lessons. Then we had a review of Dallin H. Oaks’ conference talk on “Testimony.” Is your teen trying to decide whether or not to add seminary to his schedule? “Choose to Attend Seminary” will help him see that the blessings will be great if he’ll take that extra time to study the gospel more deeply. We continued … Continue reading
