Visiting Teaching Message August 2008

We've had a common theme running through our visiting teaching messages this year, a theme of our divine worth, not only as families but our individual importance. This month is no different-our message is entitled "Each Sister is a Beloved Daughter of Heavenly Parents and Has a Divine Destiny."

We begin with a quote from Sister Julie B. Beck of the Relief Society. She reminds us that when we say we are daughters of Heavenly Father, that is a literal fact. He is the Father of our spirits. We received our very first lessons at the knees of our Heavenly Parents. We are treasured, and as we are obedient, we will be blessed and honored.

President James E. Faust is quoted as saying that we will have an increase in our feelings of self-worth as we come to know that we are daughters of God. This knowledge will help us to meet our challenges with confidence and serenity.

The prophet Lorenzo Snow made a beautiful comment when he said that we all have the capacities and powers our Heavenly Father has, but ours are in an infantile state. As we go through earth life, those capacities will be tested until they have grown to full stature, as nurtured by our obedience to the principles we have received.

President Spencer W. Kimball exhorted us to examine carefully and drink deeply of the gospel truths about our identities and our inherent worth. We each have unique personalities and our Heavenly Father has a perfect love for each of us as individuals.

We close with a message from Russell M. Nelson, who reminds us of the importance of strengthening our faith, raising families in the gospel, and being sealed in the temple. As we are faithful, we then become eligible for all that has been promised - glory, immortality and eternal lives, because that is our destiny as precious, beloved daughters of our Father in Heaven.
