Treasures in Heaven

The lesson in Sunday school this past week really got me thinking about where my heart is, and what I can change in my own personal life. Isn’t that the point of studying the scriptures? To help us see ourselves, and help us improve. So, we were studying in Matthew, Chapter 6, and we were discussing verses 20 and 21, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The question was posed, “How … Continue reading

Savor the Season

Fall is officially here… and so are my allergies. Still, I don’t think designing layouts featuring photos of my puffy eyes, runny nose, and used Kleenex is appropriate for an autumn-themed scrapbook. Fall is one of the most gorgeous seasons of the year with its spectacularly colored leaves, fresh apples and blaze orange pumpkins. There are so many ways you can savor the natural treasures featured during this wonderful time of year in a mini or traditional sized scrapbook. Consider drying apple slices and spraying them with varnish to decorate your album cover. Or, take a stroll through a local … Continue reading

Poking Fun of Mormons

I just don’t get it. I don’t understand the need others feel to make fun of other religions. Sure, the joke now and then is one thing, but creating entire musicals, shows, books around trying to make fun of another religion seems like a waste of time. Unfortunately, I’m a member of a religion that gets made fun of…a lot. Recently, there was an article written in the Washington Post titled, “Why I won’t be seeing the Book of Mormon Musical“. He makes some fabulous points. I couldn’t have said it better myself. But, here is what I don’t get. … Continue reading

When a Temple is Dedicated

I recently moved to Salt Lake City, UT from the Atlanta, GA area. Before I moved, the church had started to renovate the LDS temple. It was closed for a long period of time, but is finally finished. Right now, they are allowing the public to tour the temple before it is rededicated. I’m sorry that I cannot be there to see that happen. It is such a great missionary opportunity! May 1st the temple will be rededicated and no longer open to the public. So many times, people think that the things that Mormons do in the temple are … Continue reading

In Your Neighborhood

Do you ever walk around in your neighborhood on a nice warm evening, and think about the lives being lived inside? We never really knows what goes on behind closed doors. I was thinking about my neighborhood, and my ward that I live in. It’s a small ward as I’ve mentioned before, and it is surprising how small it is considering that I live in Salt Lake, not too far from temple square. But, many families have moved to the suburbs, and I guess they don’t like the city life as much. But, as I’ve been in this ward, I … Continue reading

Primary President

On Sunday, I was set apart as the new primary president in my ward. I’m excited about the calling, but I’m a little nervous too. Being the president of an organization brings a whole new set of worries, and responsibilities that doesn’t necessarily come when you are a counselor. I was excited that both women I chose as my counselors accepted. Tonight is our first presidency meeting, and we have a lot to go over together. I’m always amazed at how someone can serve for 4 and a half years as the president, as our previous presidency did, and then … Continue reading

Mormon Musicians

I am not one to be very hip with the music scene whether it be in or out of the church. However, it seems like lately, I’ve been hearing about a few LDS artists that I love, and am thinking that I need to be more in tune with the music scene. After all, many of these artists play often in UT, or are from UT, and it would be fun to go to some local concerts and hear them. The first one that I want to share is probably not “new” to a lot of people, but she’s new … Continue reading

Finding Scrapbooking Retreats

Are you interested in attending a scrapbooking retreat? Do the girls you scrapbook long for some time away from home, spending a little girlfriend time together and getting some serious scrapbooking done without interruption? A scrapbooking retreat is perfect for this! But how do you find them? First of all, you can certainly search the Internet. I did and found several, except I feel that word of mouth is definitely a more powerful advertising tool. In addition to finding out someones favorite retreat location, you will be able to ask questions about the specifics of the location. What is around … Continue reading

Celebrating Our Proposalversary

For Wayne and I today is more than just Valentine’s Day. It’s also our Proposalversary! We’re celebrating Proposalversary number 14. Hard to believe it was Valentine’s Day 1994 when Wayne (finally!) proposed. Seems like just yesterday! Or maybe I want the memory to linger since it was such a long time coming. (If you’re curious about the “proposal story,” such as it is, see: Shopping for Engagement Rings: Go With or Be Surprised?) Neither of us was expecting to be together today. Wayne’s been busy with work so he was even more at a disadvantage than me. I at least … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: The Mission of the Holy Ghost

In John 16, we learn a little bit about the mission of the Holy Ghost. In verse 8, we are told that “he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” Then, in verse 13, we read that “he will guide you in all truth…and he will shew you all things to come.” From these verses, we learn a little bit about the role of the Spirit in our lives. He reproves us from sin by alerting us to our misconduct. When we are engaged in sinful behavior – or when we are omitting righteous behavior … Continue reading
