Sunday School: Temple and Family History Work – Performing the Ordinances for Your Kindred Dead

You’ve done the research, you’ve obtained the information and submitted it to the temple using the TempleReady software, and now it’s time to see that the temple work is complete. This is the final step in your long journey, the moment when all your hard work bears fruit. Doesn’t it feel marvelous to come this far? If you have decided to do the temple work yourself rather than having the temple provide the proxies, you are in for a special treat as you feel the satisfaction and joy that come from serving in the house of the Lord for your … Continue reading

Sunday School: Temple and Family History Work, Salvation for the Living and the Dead

The first lesson in the Temple and Family History Work manual as used by the Church for this alternative Sunday School class is entitled, “Salvation for the Living and the Dead.” We learn that the Atonement was provided to enable us to overcome death, and to give us the chance to gain exaltation. Because of this marvelous gift, everyone will be resurrected, not just the righteous. But in order to attain eternal life, which is, to live forever in the Celestial Kingdom, we must have faith, repent, and receive the saving ordinances which are done in the temple. These ordinances … Continue reading

Too Distracted to Go to the Temple

I haven’t been to the temple for several months. I’ve been meaning to go, but you know how life is – I’ve been busy with the house, with the kids, with meals, and errands. I’ve been blogging, writing, doing my calling as Wolf leader, supporting my husband as he carries out his calling and goes to work every day—or I should say, every night (he works nights.) And we moved last fall, and I’m still trying to find places to put everything. I homeschool, and I . . . yada, yada, yada. The point is, I’m busy. It’s a shame, … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: Men Ought Always to Pray

Yesterday, we talked about the parable of the wicked judge. Today, I’d like to take a look at why that parable was told. Christ provides the reason in the first verse of Luke 18: “that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” We need to make sure that our physical bodies do not keep us from spiritual experiences. As a new mother, I’ve struggled with this greatly over the last six weeks. My schedule has been somewhat disrupted, and I have let my prayers and scripture study slide. Things have been on the “when you think of it” … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review: January 14th – January 19th

We had a great week in LDS. If you weren’t able to join us, here is a recap so you can see what you missed and get caught up. Tristi continued the Latter-day Hymns series with “The Spirit of God,” one of the most well-known and beloved of all LDS hymns. Written by William W. Phelps and first sung at the dedication of the Kirtland temple, this song is so sacred it is now reserved for the most special of occasions in the Church. In “Dinner Discussions,” Miriam kept us abreast of our weekly lessons for each age group. The … Continue reading

A House of Order

Have you ever noticed, when you walk into the temple, how clean it is? I’ve never seen a speck of lint, or carpet fuzz—I’ve never seen a cobweb, let alone a whole spider. My sister used to work in the temple and they would go in every night and polish the place until it shone, even making sure that all the vacuum marks in the carpet pointed the right way. They did this to show their reverence for God and respect for His house, and when we go in to worship, we are welcomed by the clean and fresh surroundings … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review: September 10-15

We have had a few blogs covering the different aspects of preparedness. In Are You Preparing in All Areas of Your Life? Miriam points out the importance of being physically prepared to meet the challenges that life throws your way. In What’s In Your Food Storage? Tristi points out some areas that you may not have considered, as well as the importance of adapting food storage to your family’s needs. Tristi has added a great new section about daily scripture study. You can read more of her insights in 1 Nephi 2:1-4, Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 2:5-7, Scripture Study 1 … Continue reading
