Our lesson for Relief Society and Priesthood this past Sunday was #5 in the Joseph Smith manual, entitled, “Repentance.” We begin with a reminder of the incident with the missing one hundred and sixteen pages. After asking the Lord three times and receiving two no’s, Martin Harris was allowed to take one hundred and sixteen pages of the translation home with him. Joseph didn’t feel good about sending the pages, and to compound his anxiety, the very next day Emma gave birth to a baby son, who died immediately. Emma herself was very sick and nearly died. Over the past week I have spent a great deal of time cleaning out a closet in my home. In this particular closet I had stored several years of clothes for my children. I spent the time sorting through the boxes, organizing them and giving away the excess I had accumulated. As I finished up the job today, I felt a great deal of satisfaction, and peace because I knew that I had completed a job I have been putting off for over a year. If you haven’t guessed by now, my Relief Society blogs (as well as my Gospel Doctrine ones) mirror my daily scripture study. Studying President Kimball’s lesson on the miracle of forgiveness, I found the sections covered tonight strongly related to a problem I had struggled with only a few minutes before. While I am guilty of no major, confession-requiring, temple-preventing sins, I have several nasty little habits that I know I need to change. I suppose we all do. The Relief Society and Elder’s Quorum lesson this week bears the same name as the title of one of my favorite books – The Miracle of Forgiveness (by, who else? President Kimball!). I am really looking forward to studying and hearing this lesson. As I read the first segment, “From the Life of Spencer W. Kimball”, I was touched by the woman who had no hope. This is described in a proclamation to the world that was issued by the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles in 1995. Have Fun During Lent

Today is the first Sunday of Lent—-the season of self-reflection and self-denial. Not exactly fun stuff, right? Compared to the raucous revelry and face-stuffing silliness associated with Mardi Gras, the solemn season can appear downright depressing. However, it doesn’t have to be. This Lent, I am trying to teach my young daughter that the season should be marked with anticipation. Hard Truths

Too often in society and even in many of today’s churches, we don’t hear all that much about judgment. It’s something people don’t want to think about much less hear about. But the bible is very clear that though God is a God of love and grace, He is also a god of judgment. We cannot ignore that fact. We can try, but it won’t change the facts.
