Getting More Out of Easter Sunday

It is easy to think of the easter bunny, and candy on Easter Sunday. We might rush around to make sure our kids’ easter baskets are filled, that we’ve dyed the easter eggs, and that we’ve hidden them quietly for our children to find the next morning. But, do we put the same amount of effort into discussing with them why we are doing all of this in the first place? Is Easter really about the Easter bunny? Of course, we know it’s not. I was looking on the church website today and found some very inspirational videos that will … Continue reading

Easter Hats, Easter Eggs and Bunnies

One of the things I used to hate about Easter when the children were at school was the Easter hat parades. Being a non crafty person the mere mention of hat parade or fancy dress was enough to send me into despair. Easter eggs always took a secondary role in Easter celebrations. Easter Eggs or bunnies never appear till Easter Sunday morning. Having two children who were allergic to chocolate when young always put a damper on it. Maybe that’s one of the reasons we never went overboard about Easter eggs. Yes, I tried carob and candy eggs but it’s … Continue reading

What if My Children’s Other Parent Won’t Take Them to Church on Easter?

Co-parenting is not always easy. It is inevitable that you and your ex will have varying opinions on a variety of issues, from discipline to education to religion. However, religious differences can really come to a head around holidays, such as Easter, when one parent feels that it is important the children attend a religious service, while the other parent does not. If your children will be spending Easter with a parent who does not share your views on the importance of attending church on this sacred day, there are some things you can do to take action. First, try … Continue reading

Easter Sunday

As we enter Easter weekend, I’m reminded of the true meaning of the holiday. Growing up, the Easter bunny came on Saturday, and Easter Sunday was all about church. Of course, there was always an Easter dress to wear, but we recognized that Easter was a religious holiday not to be confused with baskets filled with plastic grass, colored eggs, and tiny treats and treasures that fit into colorful plastic eggs. As I have gotten older, I have done several things to prepare for Easter. Hopefully, these suggestions will help you build your testimony of the true meaning of Easter: … Continue reading

Why Celebrate Easter?

Most everyone loves having a few days off at Easter and they love Easter eggs. Many of us will probably eat way too much chocolate. But how many people stop and think about why we celebrate Easter? Do they even know? Have you ever talked to your friends about why we celebrate Easter? The world wants to depict Easter with Easter bunnies and eggs and while that can be fun, there is a deeper significance to Easter that many people are not aware of. One idea I liked of getting the message out there came, from a teenage girl at … Continue reading

Parents + Easter Egg Hunts = Hare Raising Experiences

Have you ever taken your child to a public Easter egg hunt? I have, and vowed to never subject my sweet, innocent little lamb to another hare-raising event like it ever again. NEVER. EVER. EVER. AGAIN! Okay, maybe I’m being a bit dramatic. Never is a long time and my child is not always sweet or innocent, but she sure doesn’t charge at plastic eggs like wild animals let loose in the Serengeti. Who am I kidding? Wild animals rushing around the Kenyan outback behave better than some of the aggressive parents who flock to local Easter egg hunts. For … Continue reading

Frugal Easter Fun

I had complete sticker shock when I added up the cost all of the Easter basket goodies and fixings for three children who still believe in the Easter bunny. Since we live in an affluent area, I knew there might be a little comparing of treats when school started back the next day. Still, we have to watch the budget. Here are some ways to be frugal but still have fun for Easter. The True Meaning It goes without saying that we, especially kids, should be aware of the true meaning of Easter. Focus more on the reason behind the … Continue reading

Easter Candy Meltdown

It is that time of the year again and temptations are high if you have a sweet tooth. Getting your kids Easter baskets ready is just plain fun. There are all those little candies in pastel wrappers. You just have to try some of them out. STOP RIGHT THERE!! One little piece of candy equals about 50 calories. Who can eat just one anyway? Before you know it you have eaten two, three, maybe even four. Who is counting after that? You figure that you have eaten so many now why bother to stop. Your diet is sabotaged for this … Continue reading

Primary Time: Focus on Easter

Easter is just around the corner, and it is one of the most important holidays that we celebrate. Teaching our children about Eater is important. It is time to learn about the Atonement, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus. Unfortunately commercialism often gets in the way of celebrating the true meaning of Easter. You can bring your children’s focus on Easter back to the real meaning of the holiday through several different means. The first and easiest thing to do is to separate the Easter Bunny and other commercial type celebrations from the celebration that you have on Sunday. This allows … Continue reading
