The Importance of a Parentby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 04 Apr 2007 08:56 PM The family is an essential organization in the church. The role of parent is a vital role. When you are a parent you are responsible to teach and guide your children so that they can learn the truth. Then they can choose to take the path to Heavenly Father. It is important that you take the time each day to teach your children the gospel. Often you are teaching your children without realizing it through your actions. Here are five things to think about when interacting with your children. 1) Your children will learn from your actions. If you take the time for daily personal prayer and scripture study, your children are more likely to as well. If you complain about a calling or seem reluctant to attend church one week this will affect your children as well. 2) Your children learn about love from you. The way you treat your children may affect the way they look at Heavenly Father. If you provide a warm loving environment for your children, then they are more likely to think that Heavenly Father is loving and caring. 3) You should make time each day to teach the gospel to your children. It can be as simple as reading the scriptures together or singing a Primary song. It may be expressing your gratitude for the beautiful word that the Lord created for us, or helping your child learn to pray. Each of these little actions when put together can help to build a strong testimony. 4) It is important to provide a peaceful home environment. Your children need a place where they feel loved and safe. It is important that it be a place where it is okay to ask questions. A positive environment attracts people, and you will likely be able to meet more of your child's friends this way. 5) It is important to teach your children about agency and accountability at a young age. Once your child realizes that each choice has consequences, she will begin to consider what consequences will come as a result of the choice she is making. This is an important to step in learning to keep the commandments and finding true happiness. Related Articles: Learn more about Miriam Caldwell ![]() Miriam is a SAHM mom of three children.
