Recast Anxiety: Setting the Stage for Peaceful Scenes in Your Life

If anxiety plays a starring role in your life, it’s time to recast. You deserve the starring role. Anxiety need be little more than a subplot. Make that a cameo. No, even that draws too much attention to it. Anxiety should be one of those characters like “woman on bus” or “man reading newspaper.” You’re aware it’s there, and it serves a purpose, but once the scene’s over, you never think about it again. Certainly, this is an ideal scenario; it’s much easier said than done letting anxious thoughts go for good. But try to remember, you call the shots. … Continue reading

What is in the Life Insurance Packet?

I’ve always heard it said that getting approved for health insurance is difficult, while getting approved for life insurance is relatively easy. I’m not sure what to think about that. In my experience, this adage seems to be true. My husband and I haven’t been able to find affordable health insurance, but we did get approved for life insurance. A giant packet of approval arrived in the mail yesterday. There were two large, fat, envelopes waiting for me in the mailbox. These were the definitive signs that both me, and my husband, had been officially approved for our life insurance … Continue reading

Make Life & Fitness Easier for Yourself

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a magic wand that we could just wave that would make fitness easier to attain? I used to think that some people were just born fit and other people, well – we weren’t so lucky. Fitness is a state of mind, it’s who you want to be. It’s not just saying I want to be fit, it’s being active. In the words of a writer, fitness is about show, don’t tell. Lifestyle Choices When you make the choice to be more fit, you are talking about making lifestyle choices. The lifestyle choice could … Continue reading

The “Easy” Life of a Writer

You know; the writing process is not an easy thing. I’ve heard people say, “Wow, you’ve got the easiest job ever.” I have to laugh, because that is far more socially acceptable than smacking them in the face. Let me give you a rundown of my average day: 4:30 a.m. – Wake up, stumble to the computer and sit there yawning while the thing boots up. Open WordPerfect and write daily blogs for www.families.com. 5:30 a.m. – Blogs must be finished and work must begin on current books, two of which are currently in the works with one having a … Continue reading

Families.com Adoption Writer Intro

It is very exciting to have the opportunity to be a Families.com blogger on the topic of adoption. My hope is to share some of my experience, training and education with other families who are interested in becoming Adoptive Parents. I also hope to support those who are Adoptive Parents. I am the biological mother of two adult children, Sean age 22 and Tori age 21. I was married to an adopted person. My ex husband was a newborn placement and his older sister was also. Ironically, she married an adopted person too. I did very well in this world … Continue reading

J.K. Rowling Loses Billionaire Status

I have to admit that I am not a Harry Potter fan. I have an 8-year-old and we’ve already seen the first movie and I am sure the others will come in time. I will set and watch them like a good mom, but it really isn’t my favorite as far as movie genres. But, I have a lot of respect for author J.K. Rowling. She has said her home life was not easy when she was growing up, she was refused admission to Oxford University, and her mother suffered from multiple sclerosis for ten years before dying from the … Continue reading

Ways That Sleep Apnea Affects Insurance

Sleep apnea is a serious health condition that can cause a person to snore, loudly, every night. It is easy to see how sleep apnea can affect a person’s spouse. The condition can also affect a person’s health insurance, life insurance, and auto insurance premiums. Sleep apnea is a type of breathing disorder that doctors have become more aware of in the past few years. The disorder causes a person to repeatedly stop breathing while he or she is sleeping. This can cause the brain, and the rest of the body, to be unable to get enough oxygen. The most … Continue reading

Help For Musicians Who Lack Health Insurance

Every year, New Orleans holds a huge jazz festival that goes on for more than a week. The musicians that come to preform at the festival will, at times, require health care. Many of them do not have health insurance. They go to the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic for the health care that they need. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is an annual festival that started in April of 1970. The first one had around 350 people attending. In 2001, attendance reached 650,000. The festival includes twelve different stages, all of which showcase a multitude of musicians, preforming … Continue reading

Personal Touches

One of the most touching layouts in my wedding scrapbook is a double page design filled with original poems written by family and friends. Granted, several of my family members are professional writers and a good chunk of my friends have careers in journalism, but you don’t have to be schooled in the world of prose in order to add a personal touch to a scrapbook page. Heck, you don’t even have to be proficient in rhyming in order to pen a poem that will make an impact on someone’s life. One of the easiest ways to spice up an … Continue reading
