Strengthening Families by Increasing Spirituality

Do you ever look at a family and just think, “Wow, they have it together!” Do you ever ask yourself, why did all of their kids go on missions, and get married in the temple, or why do they seem so close? I ask myself questions like these all the time. Sometimes, no matter what the parents might do, children will still go astray, however, we have been counseled over and over to strengthen our home and families and we have received promises from our leaders that if we do that, we will be blessed. The visiting teaching message this … Continue reading

Writing a Primary Program

This weekend was such a great weekend for many reasons. Mainly because it was general conference weekend, and I got to hear some great, spiritually uplifting talks which I will blog more about later. But, I also love the weekend that I get to just hang out all day at home with my family and relax a little from the stress of callings, and making sure everyone gets up and gets to church on time. But, this weekend, I had a task hanging over my head that I finally completed, and I’m so glad I did! I made it a … Continue reading

Much Needed Inspiration

This past Sunday in Primary, I became really frustrated. It seems that the past two weeks, the kids have been so irreverent. Obviously, this is something that every primary president probably has to deal with, but I was feeling so frustrated by it after primary that I spent a long time speaking to my counselors about what we can do to increase the reverence in primary. Luckily, we have General Conference this next weekend that will definitely yield some inspiration and guidance, and hopefully give the spiritual energy to tackle such a problem! The kids just seemed to be wiggly, … Continue reading

Forget Not

Since being called as an apostle, I have loved hearing President Uchtdorf speak. Every time he speaks, there is something that resonates with me, and he has quickly become one of my “favorites” to listen to during General Conference. I especially love when he speaks to the women of the church in the General Relief Society Meeting like he did this past Saturday. I sat at home and watched conference on BYUtv not wanting to get dressed and go to the chapel, and I’m so grateful that I did not miss his talk. It seems that he has a way … Continue reading

Never Complain

Often, when I sit down to write an article, I’m not so sure what I am going to write about. Today, I thought I would write about temple attendance, and the importance of that. While browsing talks from general authorities on this topic, I ran across a talk given by Elder Richard G. Scott, titled, Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need. As I was reading through this talk, one sentence jumped out of me that I just can’t seem to get out of my head. He said, “We should never complain, when we are … Continue reading

Daughters in My Kingdom

In church a couple of Sundays ago, I was handed a book by the Relief Society President titled, Daughters in my Kingdom. Seeing as I’m in Primary, I didn’t know what this book was all about. I asked her, and she said it was a gift from the church all about Relief Society. I threw it into my church bag, and didn’t give it much thought, until I pulled it out later and started thumbing threw it. I read the message from the first presidency on the inside. We are urged to, “study this book and allow its timeless truths … Continue reading

Family is What You Make It

I wrote an article yesterday called, “What’s For Dinner?” that I shared on Facebook with my friends and family. I got lots of responses from people saying they liked the article, and that always makes me feel great. But, I like the comments where I know someone is really reading, and thinking about what I write. Those really make me feel like every word I type is important. That comment came from my Aunt. She is not LDS, but is very familiar with our religion. She is my Mom’s sister, and growing up, we had the fortune of living particularly … Continue reading

What’s for Dinner?

I think I’ve finally realized now how my Mom must have felt when I was growing up and she put dinner on the table in front of us only to hear groaning, complaining, and moaning. My Mom worked hard during my childhood, working full-time outside the home, and also cooking many meals for us as kids. I don’t remember eating out a lot, and I don’t remember many nights where we had to fend for ourselves. There was always a dinner of some kind, and we almost always ate together as a family. Recently, my 2 and 5 year olds … Continue reading
