Senior Missionary Series: Receiving Your Call

Now that you've submitted your papers, it's time to wait for that all-important moment when you will receive your call. In days past, when all the forms were filled out longhand and send in through regular mail, it would take quite a while for your call to arrive. Now that everything has been made electronic, you will get your call in as little as a week, but generally around three weeks.

Your call will arrive in a 10X13 white envelope with the Church's address in the upper left corner. When you open it up, the first thing you'll see is the official call letter, which congratulates you on having been found worthy to serve a mission for the Lord and tells you where you will be serving. It also tells you how long your mission will be and when you are expected to report to the Missionary Training Center. Depending on the circumstances, you could be entering the MTC right away, or waiting for several weeks to a couple of months.

Also included in your envelope will be a booklet that is specific to your mission. Inside is information on your mission president and his wife, as well as clothing guidelines for the area in which you will serve. If they tell you to bring warm clothing, listen! They know what they're talking about, and with luggage restrictions being what they are, they aren't going to tell you to bring unnecessary items. To this end, they'll tell you what you should bring, including a list of reference materials you will need.

You will also find a form for your doctor to fill out and mail in, certifying that you have had the shots necessary for the area where you will be serving. You should take care of this immediately.

This is so exciting - you're now closer than ever to embarking on one of the most wonderful experiences of your life!
