Searching for Blessings

This year has been one of my most difficult ones. I have blogged about some of my trials over the year, since I have learned from them. At tithing settlement yesterday, my bishop pointed out that we should look for our blessings. We were not discussing the difficult things that my family has been through the past year. At the time I thought to myself “Yeah right! What blessings?” As we drove home, I turned to my husband, and suddenly I began to see all the blessings in our lives. We have come through a difficult year, with our faith … Continue reading

Seeking and Following the Spirit-Part II

If you missed part I in this series, go here first. If we truly want to seek the spirit, first, we have to want the Holy Ghost in our lives. I’m sure all of us can think of a time in our lives where we were more spiritually minded. Maybe some of you are experiencing that time right now. But, maybe some of you can think of more spiritual times in your life than right now. One thing we need to do is to WANT the Holy Ghost in our lives daily. This is the first step in seeking it. … Continue reading

The Key to Happiness

Happiness, the thing everyone is searching for, but so often can’t find. We all want to feel joy in our lives, but there are times when it seems almost impossible to come by. After my divorce I was sure that I would never feel happiness again. I honestly didn’t think it was possible. I was too devastated. But I can truthfully say today, that I have found the key to happiness, and it really isn’t that hard to find. All you have to do is count your blessings. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Some days it is far easier to … Continue reading

St. Patrick’s Day Layouts

If you have leftover green embellishments from Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day is a great time to put them to good use. Green cardstock, paper and ink can all be employed to create a festive St. Paddy’s Day layout. In addition, the holiday inspires many people to journal about the day’s activities, whether it’s attending a parade, hosting a party, setting a leprechaun trap or searching for a pot of gold with your kids. Take the photos you snapped of the festivities and place them near a journaling block that details the day’s events or simply add some short captions around … Continue reading

Bad Day

You think you had a bad day? When fear, frustration, anxiety, anger or overwhelming discontent overtake my day I bury my head… in a newspaper. Seriously; nothing changes my perspective on life faster than reading the headlines of the NY Daily News. The sheer magnitude of horrific incidents involving parents and their children serve as a serious slap in the face, and makes my personal problems seem like blessings. You think you’re having a bad day? Take a look at these headlines: *Mother lets baby boy drown; admits she hated him *12-year-old girl discovered naked, searching for food in trash … Continue reading

Recognizing the Lord’s Hand in Your Life

Are there times in your life when it is difficult to find the hand of the Lord in your life? Week in Review: December 17th – 22nd

We’ve had a great week here in LDS. If you weren’t able to join us every day, here is a recap. In “Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 46,” Miriam outlines everyone’s lessons and helps us stay on track. She also gives us a wonderful report on Elder Ballard’s talk “Faith, Family, Facts and Fruit” about the perceptions people have about the Church. Tristi continues to catch us up on the year’s course of study in Spencer W. Kimball’s lesson “We Should Be a Reverent People.” Do you have a favorite story from Church history? Meditation

It can be difficult to find time to sit and meditate. However, this is an important and essential thing to help keep our testimonies strong. As a mother to young children, I rarely get a quiet moment to focus on the things of the spirit, and when I do at the end of the day, I’m generally too exhausted to really be able to focus on things the way that I want to. Meditation is focusing and thinking on a certain subject. When I think of meditation in regards to my testimony, I think of it as a time to … Continue reading

Strengthening the Less Active

One of the things that has impressed me in my new branch – not for the positive – was the enormous number of inactive sisters. The Relief Society secretary gave me a list of both active and inactive RS members, and I counted the two groups. We have approximately 25 sisters attending their meetings and participating in activities, and 50 sisters who we almost never see. As the new second counselor in our Relief Society presidency, I have a stronger responsibility to help these sisters return to their blessings. However, to some extent, every sister has an obligation to help … Continue reading
