LDS General Conference Scripture Citation Index

Have you ever wondered what the modern church leaders have said about a particular scripture verse or story? Now you have no reason to be curious. Two BYU faculty members, Richard C. Galbraith and Stephen W. Liddle, have created an online citation database that links scriptures to Conference talks. This web site can further enhance your daily scripture study, or help you prepare for lessons or talks. Galbraith and Liddle brought their site online a few years ago and have been working constantly to improve it. Rather than searching for a General Conference talk by subject, you can click on … Continue reading

Scripture Study & Learning Styles

Have you ever felt as though you weren’t getting the most you could possibly absorb from your scripture study? I’m not talking about the nights you skim over one verse and call it a day. Do you really apply yourself to your scriptures and can’t seem to comprehend them the most possible? Perhaps the problem comes from the fact that your learning style doesn’t mesh with your scripture study technique. There are three basic learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile. When we think of scripture study, we usually envision a person reading and perhaps pausing to ponder the words they … Continue reading

Does your family, like many, struggle with studying the scriptures together? Perhaps the problem isn’t desire but instead simple technical difficulties. A shift in your routine might make for a more pleasant, spiritual experience. We have often been counseled by our leaders to spend time as a family each day feasting on the words of Christ. Many times I have heard parents emphasize that even if your family grumbles through the study, the important thing to do is to build good habits. And I agree. Yet I wonder how much considering the individual needs and personality of our family might … Continue reading

The Ten Lines of Defense

The Church is really focusing on the family, recently more so than ever as we’ve seen from the worldwide broadcast, the Visiting Teaching message this month, and other forms of media. The family is crucial to our Heavenly Father’s plan for His children, and as such, we should protect it above all else. When my husband went to Stake Conference last week (yes, I sluffed – I was sick) he picked up a wonderful flyer from the bulletin board. It reads: The 10 Lines of Defense for Our Family 1. Daily Private Personal Prayer 2. Daily Personal Scripture Study for … Continue reading
