Gospel Questions: Do Mormons Worship Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was a young boy of fourteen, living in upstate New York with his family, when a religious revival hit their area. Everyone was divided on which church was true, and in the Smith home, two religions were practiced. This was confusing to Joseph. How could both churches be right? One night as he read in the Bible, he happened upon the verse James 1:5 which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. Struck by the idea that he … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review – February 18th – 23rd

We had a wonderful week here in LDS. If you weren’t able to join us, here’s a quick summary so you can catch up. We started the week with lesson #3 in our Joseph Smith manual, entitled “Jesus Christ: the Divine Redeemer of the World.” We learn that Jesus Christ is the only way by which we are able to return to Heaven and partake of the blessings that await us there. “Choosing the Best for Your Family” reminds us that the choices we make as parents will have an impact on our children’s lives, and that as we move … Continue reading

RS/EQ: “Jesus Christ: The Divine Redeemer of the World”

Our Relief Society and Priesthood lesson this last week was found in the Joseph Smith manual, lesson three, and was entitled: “Jesus Christ, The Divine Redeemer of the World.” Just the title of the lesson brings me warmth and comfort as I know we’re going to learn something special from this inspired message. The prologue to this lesson points out that as the Prophet of the Restoration, one of Joseph’s primary responsibilities was to testify of Jesus Christ. In a world that had so much light and truth taken from it, his job was to enlighten the minds of the … Continue reading

RS/EQ: Developing a Friendship With the Savior

This week, you should be studying lesson three from the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church book. The lesson focuses on Christ and His role as our Savior and our God. As I studied the first two parts, I was touched by the depth of the love President Kimball obviously felt for the Lord. The first section, on the life of President Kimball, recalls a time when then-Elder Kimball left his sickbed to commune with the Savior and to celebrate his role as an Apostle. The scene painted so obviously reveals the love and emotion the man felt towards … Continue reading
