Relief Society: "Three Goals to Guide You"by Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 07 Nov 2007 04:56 PM In his talk "Three Goals to Guide You" President Thomas S Monson spoke specifically to the sisters in Relief Society. He opens his talk by explaining that as he prayed about what to talk about he felt prompted to share these three goals that the women of the church should be working on. The first goal is to study diligently. President Monson stresses the importance of studying the scriptures. He points out that this will keep our testimonies strong. He also emphasizes the importance of teaching your children from the scriptures so that their testimonies might be made stronger. He warns against allowing your children to watch too much television. President Monson also encourages each sister to pursue secular education as well, so that they will be prepared for the "uncertainties of life." The second goal is to pray earnestly. President Monson points out that prayer is a defense against temptation. It is important to pray often. He also says that it is important to teach our children to pray often. He shares a story about a mother who was a quiet example by praying often. Through her quiet example her children learned to pray. The third goal is to serve willingly. President Monson acknowledges that there may be many opportunities to serve and that it can become overwhelming. He points out that the small acts of service do make a big difference. He also emphasizes the role of visiting teachers and service. This is a wonderful talk. The three things that President Monson speaks about will each help us grow closer to the Lord and strengthen our testimonies. They will also help us to strengthen our families. This is a wonderful talk and I hope that you will take the time to read it and apply its principles in your lives.
