Mourn With Those That Mourn

There are times when those around you are dealing with grief. This grief can come for many different reasons; loss of a loved one through death or a break-up, a disappointment in achieving a long set goal or dream or as a result of a serious sin. No matter what the reason it is important to show support and love during the difficult times. There are times when you simply need to cry with the person that is grieving. Other times you can offer words of comfort. Just stopping by to say hello occasionally can help as well. These things … Continue reading

Relief Society: Celebrating New Additions to the Family

When it comes to supporting each other in Relief Society one way that we do this is to celebrate the joys with our friends. We also spend time mourning with sisters as they face their different trials. Latter-day Saints tend to have large families. Many people make sure that a baby shower is thrown for a first time mom, but then neglect to do something to celebrate the birth of the next baby. I was raised with the view that you really only need a baby shower for first, but this does not mean that we can not celebrate with … Continue reading

General Women’s Conference: Sister Thompson’s Address

Continuing our summary of the general women’s conference broadcast which aired last Saturday night, we take a look at Sister Barbara Thompson’s address, entitled, “Now Let Us Rejoice.” This topic was very appropriate for the second counselor in the general Relief Society presidency, herself being an enthusiastic woman. Sister Thompson began her address by stating that Relief Society is evidence of God’s love for His daughters. She reminds us of Joseph Smith’s declaration that “the Church was never perfect until the women were organized.” These early sisters went from home to home, administering to the needs of the families under … Continue reading

It can be difficult to decide when and how to make time to follow a prompting. If you are praying to receive promptings on how to help others, it is important to respond … Continue reading

We learn about the Word of Wisdom and also a little bit about hypocrisy. We got caught up to speed with our lessons in this week’s “Dinner Discussions,” and then Tristi answered another question from her non-member friend in, … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: Seeking Out the Lost

Luke 15 focuses on three parables of lost items that were reclaimed. In each case, the finder rejoiced exceedingly at relocating their treasure, be it lamb, coin, or child. Every year, stories of those who are physically top the news. The one that stands out most recently was of the family who became lost in a blizzard; the wife and children were saved but the husband, who left the car to seek help, was lost. Hikers, children, and older folks with memory troubles are similarly sought after with great effort, and the nation rejoices when they are found or mourns … Continue reading
