Primary Time: Missionary Work

Sharing the gospel with others is an important part of the teachings of the church. As we do this we are not force our beliefs on others, but rather open the door for them to ask questions and to learn as much as they feel comfortable learning. Primary children can also participate in inviting friends and loved ones to learn more about the church. You can have your children invite friends to participate in family home evenings and family activity nights. One great way to do this is to invite the entire family to participate not just the friend. This … Continue reading

Primary Time: July 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the sharing time theme is “Because I know we are all children of God, I will share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 and it reads, “And if it so be that ye should . . .bring but one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy.” The song for the month is “Called to Serve Him” (Hymns 249). The theme is divided into four basic principles. The first principle teaches that daily scripture study and personal prayer can help prepare you to be a missionary. The second principle stresses the importance … Continue reading

Primary Time: Sharing Time Theme June 2007

This month the sharing time theme is “I follow Jesus Christ when I make and keep my baptismal covenant.” The scripture that the theme focuses on is John 3:5. You may want to work with your children to memorize the scripture for this month. The theme is broken into four parts. First the children are reminded that Jesus was baptized as well. Then the children learn more about the baptismal covenants. The children also learn about receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Finally the children learn that the Sacrament is an opportunity for them to renew their baptismal covenants. … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: Daniel and the King

This week’s lesson covers both Daniel and Esther. I’d like to take a few minutes to focus on the first six chapters of Daniel and one of the lessons that caught my attention. As I began reading a few chapters, I confess that I began to wonder about this king Nebuchadnezzar. After hearing Daniel explain his visions and seeing Shadrach (Hananiah), Meshach (Mishael), Abed-nego (Azariah) thrown into the fiery furnace, how, I wondered, could he throw Daniel into the lion’s den? The answer, I am embarrassed to admit, is in the scriptures. King Nebuchadnezzar did not throw Daniel in the … Continue reading

Primary Time: “The Gospel Is a Gift to Share”

This month the theme for Sharing Time is “The Gospel Is a Gift to Share.” This is a great theme, because it gives you a chance to talk to your children about the blessings the gospel brings to your life. It will also give your family a great chance to share the gospel with someone this month. There is a puzzle activity that you can print off and do with your children. One way that you can discuss the blessings that the gospel brings to your life is at the dinner table. You could each say one thing that you … Continue reading

Avoiding Internet Contention

Elder Ballard encouraged us to use the Internet as a way to spread the gospel. Many of us have started blogs that share our testimony of Jesus Christ and our feelings about the Atonement, and it’s wonderful to see so many active and faithful Latter-day Saints taking this call seriously and using the tools they’ve been given to share their beliefs. At the same time, many of those who have chosen to leave the Church or perhaps were never members are also using the Internet to share their feelings of negativity about the Church. The Internet is open to all, … Continue reading

Reaching Out to Others

It is important to reach out to others. There may be times when you are in a situation where most people are members of the church and only one or two people are not. When you are in this situation it is easy to unintentionally make the nonmembers feel excluded. We often talk about things that they do not understand or use words that may not understand. When you are in this situation you can work to help everyone feel included. When you are talking about your calling or something similar that they may not understand, you may want to … Continue reading

Did you miss some of our blogs here in LDS this week? Never fear—this summary will get you caught up to speed. Keep on track with the lessons at church with this week’s “Dinner Discussions,” and in “Concern for the One,” we read of Joseph B. Wirthlin’s conference address which reminds us of the need to be there … Continue reading
