Primary Time: July 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the sharing time theme is “Because I know we are all children of God, I will share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 and it reads, “And if it so be that ye should . . .bring but one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy.” The song for the month is “Called to Serve Him” (Hymns 249). The theme is divided into four basic principles. The first principle teaches that daily scripture study and personal prayer can help prepare you to be a missionary. The second principle stresses the importance … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 17

This week’s dinner discussions are based on week seventeen in the manuals. Primary lessons are one week behind. You may need to adjust the lessons according to your ward’s schedule. Be sure to keep the discussions upbeat and positive. You can also discuss the Sharing Time theme as well. If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned that he is blessed to have a body. They learned about Daniel refusing to eat the king’s food because it was bad for his body. They discussed all the things that their bodies can do and how to take care … Continue reading

Primary Time: Loving Our Children

The recent home teaching message given by President Hinckley has made me start thinking of the things that I can do to help make the gospel more central in my home, for their sakes. I am already trying to do the things that President Hinckley talks about but I still can find ways to improve. It is so important to remember that children are a blessing and a responsibility. President Hinckley urged us to love, teach and respect our children. He also suggested that we pray with and for them. I think that prayer is a very important habit to … Continue reading

Your Preparation for the Sacrament

One important thing that you can do each week is to partake of the Sacrament. This allows you to renew your baptismal covenants. It is a time for self-reflection and chance for you to make sure you are staying on the correct path. It is important that you make it a priority to regularly partake of the Sacrament. You should not allow other things to get in the way of doing so. You may want to take time either Saturday night or Sunday morning to prepare yourself to take the Sacrament. Serving Sisters in Primary and Young Women

A few weeks ago, Miriam wrote a great blog aimed at those who serve in Primary and feel socially isolated. Although I more than fully agree that your social life is primarily your responsibility (no pun intended), I found myself thinking of things that those of us without Primary callings can do to serve those who teach and care for our children on Sunday. Here are a few suggestions that cross various boundaries. Spread the news. If you are in the Relief Society presidency, you can make sure that sisters in Primary (as well as those in Young Women) receive … Continue reading

Family Home Evening: Music and Worship

This week you could have family home evening based on music. If you have teenagers, they can pass off goals in both the Personal Progress and Duty to God awards that involve music. This family home evening can take place at the beginning of the goal process or at the end or you may want to have a similar lesson after they have reached their goals. You can open family home evening by reading Doctrine and Covenants 25:12. As a family you can talk about how some music helps you think about Heavenly Father, and how some music can reflect … Continue reading
