A Primary Activity

This past Saturday, we had a great primary activity. I feel so lucky to get to live in UT and around so many unique and special church sites. One of which is the church history museum downtown. I’ve blogged before about how my family went there on a Sunday night and really enjoyed their children’s exhibit. After that experience, I thought that our little small primary might enjoy doing something similar. First, we decided to take the train to our destination. This was very exciting for the children. Some of them had never ridden public transportation before. To do this, … Continue reading

Primary Time: Missionary Work

Sharing the gospel with others is an important part of the teachings of the church. As we do this we are not force our beliefs on others, but rather open the door for them to ask questions and to learn as much as they feel comfortable learning. Primary children can also participate in inviting friends and loved ones to learn more about the church. You can have your children invite friends to participate in family home evenings and family activity nights. One great way to do this is to invite the entire family to participate not just the friend. This … Continue reading

Primary Time: Tips for Successful Quarterly Activities

Primary quarterly activities are a great way to encourage spirituality and to allow the children to build friendships with each other. There needs to be a good balance that allows the children to interact with each other in a fun and positive way that is different from church each Sunday. The activities should take place once a quarter and should focus on the year’s theme. It is a good idea to have at least one activity focus on service each year. Many wards often have one of the activities focus on the pioneers in the summer, but that is optional. … Continue reading

Primary Time: Saying Thank You

One important thing that we need to do as parents is to thank the people who serve so willingly in Primary. Often we only think of thanking our children’s teachers, when there really are so many that serve in the Primary. A simple note or a homemade card and a plate of brownies would go a long way in brightening these workers lives. You should consider the immense work and effort that the Primary presidency completes each week. They handle calling the teachers, making sure every class has a teacher each week. They set up Primary each week, conduct, and … Continue reading

Primary Time: Friends

One of the wonderful things about Primary is that allows the children to build friendships with each other. It is great to have friends that can help to strengthen your testimony. Primary is a great place to form these friendships. Since I grew up in Utah, I really took having members as friends for granted. Now that I am raising my children outside of Utah, Iam grateful for this added benefit of Primary. If you are new to the area, you may need to set up play dates so that your children can start building friendships. This may take some … Continue reading

Primary Time: Five Ideas for Quarterly Activities

It is the beginning of the new year, if you are in the Primary presidency, then you are most likely planning the quarterly activities for the entire year. Here are five ideas for activities that may be fun for your Primary to complete. 1) One fun activity is to have the Primary have a cultural Christmas party. You can ask different returned missionaries from your ward share a little bit about the countries that they served in, and how those countries celebrated Christmas. You can have the guests set up in different rooms, and have the children rotate through. You … Continue reading

Primary Time: Christmas Activity

One idea for a Primary activity day is to have a Christmas craft fair. This can be expanded to include a service project as well. This day can be fairly inexpensive, but a lot of fun for the children. It is generally best to plan this activity for sometime in November, because December is so busy for everyone. Also if you are completing care packages for the missionaries from your ward, you will want to have to mail the packages to the missionaries. You should open the activity with a spiritual reminder of why we celebrate Christmas. Here is an … Continue reading

To succeed in homeschooling, it is in your best interest to get involved with other homeschoolers. You should join a homeschool network or group near you. For this reason, I have decided to give a full listing of homeschooling groups throughout each state. Yes, there are other sites that list homeschool networks and support groups but none of are comprehensive. Some of them only list Christian, others only list those affiliated with them. I will attempt to list all of them. ACE: (Aurora, Colorado, Eclectic) Homeschoolers Serving the Area of: Aurora, Centennial, DTC, Green Valley Ranch Non-Directed, inclusive, social and … Continue reading
