Primary Time: Preparing Sharing Timeby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 27 Mar 2007 08:47 PM When you teach in Primary you will be asked at some point to have your class be in charge of a sharing time. It is important to prepare the theme on the topic that your presidency asks you to. You may want to ask them what specific area they want you to cover so that you do not duplicate an earlier sharing time. Here are five tips to help you have a fun sharing time. 1) Be sure to involve your students. They should ultimately be the ones standing in front of the rest of the Primary. Depending on their age and their willingness to stand up, you may want to have them hold pictures, tell the story, conduct the game or keep score. 2) Try to make sharing time fun, while still teaching a point. This can involve games, having your students act out a scripture story with costumes, or a puppet show. The point is to keep the activities going, make sure that you do not make the activities too long. 3) It is helpful if the rest of the Primary has something to work on that illustrates the point. You may want to have them color or draw a picture about the concept. If the game is going to take too long you can have your class prepare handouts in the weeks before you present. 4) Make sure that you practice sharing time at least once with your class. This should not take up an entire class period, but rather just a few minutes at the end. You may want to prepare over several weeks so that you can still focus on the lessons on hand. 5) Remember that you should be drawing your teaching material from the scriptures and other material provided by the church. "The Friend" has great ideas each month for sharing time. If you are stumped for ideas ask your Primary president for a few suggestions.
