Primary Time: October Themeby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 18 Oct 2006 07:49 PM This month the theme for Primary is "I Will Follow the Prophet Today." This is a great theme, since it coincides with General Conference. It is a pretty easy theme to incorporate into your family home evenings and other activities during the month. In this month's Friend there is a great activity where you match the Prophet and some of the apostles to their pictures when they were boys. One easy way to incorporate this theme is to review President Hinckley's talks with your family. You can review his talk from the Priesthood session "Rise Up, Oh Men of God," and "The Faith to Move Mountains" from the Sunday morning session. It is important to stress the importance of following the counsel that President Hinckley has given us. The scripture for this month is Doctrine and Covenants 1:38. You may want to help your children memorize this verse. You can practice at dinner every night. You can give the family a reward when everyone can pass it off. Another great thing to review is "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." This is a truly inspired document on the importance of families. It is important that your children understand how important it is. You may want to discuss how the family has come under attack since it was issued in 1995. You may want to share stories of the prophets from the scriptures. You can then point out to your children that the Lord continues to teach us through his prophet today. Point out that when the people listened and obeyed the prophet they were blessed. If they chose to ignore the counsel of the prophet, then serious consequences followed. You may want to discuss ways that you can support President Hinckley at home. You may want to make it a point to pray for President Hinckley as a family. You can also talk about the different things that President Hinckley has asked you to do. Learn more about Miriam Caldwell ![]() Miriam is a SAHM mom of three children.
