Primary Time: March Theme "Try, Try, Try"

The Sharing Time theme for March is "Try, Try, Try." The theme focuses on the many different choices that we have to make each day. The theme points out that it is important to try to do what Jesus would do. It uses a maze to describe the choices we have to make. It also points out that we need to continue to try to be like Jesus.

You can reinforce the theme this month by talking about daily choices that your children have to choose the right. You may want to talk about making decisions beforehand. One example is choosing to say no to drugs and alcohol, since they already know they won't do this, it will be easier to say no. You can also stress the importance of repentance and trying again if you make the wrong choice.

You may want to have your children share a good choice that they make each day. This will help them become more aware of how many choices the do make each day. If your children make a poor choice take the opportunity to remind them of repentance and that it allows each of us to try again.

The scripture for the month 2 Nephi 31:12. The scripture stresses the importance of doing the things that Jesus would do. The children are encouraged to learn the scripture this month. You can encourage your children to practice the scripture each day. You may want to memorize it as a family.

The song for this month is "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus" p 78 in "The Children's Songbook." It would help your children if you could practice this song with them at home during the month. Family home evenings are a great time to practice the song. I also like to practice the song at bedtime.

Thanks for the tips! It's my month for sharing time, and I just got the calling. I'm so lost! LOL

One great resource is "The Friend" in the Sharing Time section they have outlines for four different ideas for Sharing Times each. (You can also get it online by going to the primary section of www.lds.org) It is easy to flip it open and simply prepare the materials suggested. The ideas work well, and are designed with kids in mind. If you are doing both junior and senior or a combination of the two, then you will want to make certain adaptations. I used this resource a lot when I was in the presidency. Good Luck!

Hi! I'm new here--and new to primary, so I have a question regarding the theme. On this site, you have the primary theme as, "Try, Try, Try" for the month, but the Church's 2007 Outline for Sharing Time has the theme as "My faith in Jesus Christ grows when I follow His example and keep His commandments." I'm trying to figure out the discrepancy since I'm not seeing your theme listed in the outline. What am I missing? Thanks!

Hmmm. Well I always refer to the page in "The Friend" to get the theme for sharing time to write about. I went and checked out the two pages both available on the Primary part of lds.org. The Friend theme matches as far as song, scripture and general idea, just a different title. That is what I was referring to--sorry about the confusion.
