My Favorite Conference Talk

It seems like whenever I listen to conference twice a year, and think about what I want to share on this blog, that I am always drawn to choose talks that are my “favorite” based on what I must need to learn or hear at the time. It is a blessing to me to have this avenue to re-read the conference talks and share my thoughts on them with whoever is reading. Maybe your favorite was not my favorite. It doesn’t really matter, because they are all inspired. But, I want to share a talk with you that was important … Continue reading

October 2011 General Conference- Elaine S. Dalton Address

“The most important thing a father can do for his daughter is love her mother.” -Elaine S. Dalton Sitting lazily in our backyard swing listening to conference on Sunday morning with our kids semi-listening, that quote above struck me, and I couldn’t help but poke my husband and say, “Are you listening?” I know we’ve all done it. We’ve all made sure that our husbands listen to what is important, but I couldn’t help but love this talk. We have one daughter, and she is our oldest. I know that she holds a special place in my husband’s heart. And, … Continue reading

Writing a Primary Program

This weekend was such a great weekend for many reasons. Mainly because it was general conference weekend, and I got to hear some great, spiritually uplifting talks which I will blog more about later. But, I also love the weekend that I get to just hang out all day at home with my family and relax a little from the stress of callings, and making sure everyone gets up and gets to church on time. But, this weekend, I had a task hanging over my head that I finally completed, and I’m so glad I did! I made it a … Continue reading

Is Stake Conference a Free Pass?

I was in ward council the other day and the Bishop was going on and on about how we all need to attend stake conference. He read an email from the Stake President encouraging all members to attend the meetings during stake conference weekend. I thought to myself, “Do members really think this is an excuse to skip church?” I have to admit, that I have been tempted in the past. I have two small children who can barely sit still through one hour of sacrament meeting. One certain two-year-old boy will go un-named, but he knows who he is. … Continue reading

Preparing a Talk with your Primary Child

My four-year-old was assigned her first talk this past Sunday in Primary. I was told that it could be anywhere from 5 seconds in length to 10 minutes. That’s a big gap huh? But, I guess for the sunbeams, you never know what to expect! Her topic was, “The mission of the church is to invite all to come unto Christ” That’s a big topic for such a little person. How do you write talks with your primary-aged child? This can be a little daunting. Do you write it for them? Do you let them write it? What’s the protocol? … Continue reading

October 2010 General Conference-My Favorite Talk

General Conference is a wonderful time of year. Living in UT, we get to sit at home in our pajamas and watch conference on TV. Since I have very young children at home, this can be challenging to do. I get bits and pieces of the talks, and always vow that I will re-read them, and really ponder them during a quiet moment. Usually, I don’t get that quiet moment, or do not really think about it again. But, this time, I want to re-visit these talks and blog about some that I felt were particularly poignant to me personally … Continue reading

Primary Time: July 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the sharing time theme is “Because I know we are all children of God, I will share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 and it reads, “And if it so be that ye should . . .bring but one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy.” The song for the month is “Called to Serve Him” (Hymns 249). The second principle stresses the importance … Continue reading

Primary Time: April 2008 Sharing Time

The Primary theme for this month is “I will follow the prophet.” The scripture for the month is Amos 3:7. It reads: “Surely the Lord will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants, the prophets.” The song for this month is “We Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet.” You can use this song during your singing time in family home evening. This is a nice song to teach your children, since they may have the opportunity to sing it in Sacrament meeting. The theme is divided into four basic principles. The first principle is that the … Continue reading
