Primary Bulletin Board

This year, the theme in primary is Choose The Right. It’s been a great theme to talk to my kids at home about too. Even my 3 year old will say to me when he is reprimanded for doing something wrong, “Mommy, that’s not choosing the right!”. It’s an easy concept to teach to children, so I’m glad it is our theme for 2012. Part of my calling that I have to admit I haven’t been too great at, is decorating our ward bulletin board. However, this year, we have another ward that is in our building with us that … Continue reading

We Teach Children, Not Lessons

Last night, we had our stake primary leadership training meeting. We had a great meeting and I left feeling inspired to be a better primary president for the year ahead. People gave answers such as that Heavenly Father loves them, or to Choose the Right and recognize when they make right choices, etc. They told us to keep whatever that one thing is in mind throughout the year as we … Continue reading

Resources for Children on LDS.org

As the primary president in my ward, and mother of three little ones, I’m always looking for ideas for lessons, sharing time, family home evening, etc. I have spoken before about the great website sugardoodle.net. But, it looks like the church is beefing up their website a bit to contain similar resources for parents, families, and teachers looking for additional materials online. They have created a new section of the website dedicated to children’s resources. It can be found here. I know that I am personally excited to explore what there is to offer, and what they will be adding … Continue reading

Websites for keeping homeschooling fun

If you don’t find ways to keep homeschooling fun it will be just a matter of time before the kids begin longing for public school. In fact, I often counsel homeschoolers whose kids are hesitant to homeschool to take extra time to show them how fun homeschooling can be. Here are some ideas for keeping homschooling fun with online games. The internet is chock-full of online games. There are games for math, reading, science, and even art. Whenever one of my kids is struggling with a particular subject, I do a search for an appropriate online game that will give … Continue reading

One concern of many new teachers is setting up their classrooms. Designing or arranging your classroom effectively and efficiently is very important. However, it can also be a tiresome and tedious task. Due to overcrowding of students and limited space, setting up a workable area can be difficult. The layout and appearance of the classroom should reflect the teaching style and personality of the teacher. What is workable for one teacher is … Continue reading
