Preparing for Hard Timesby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 24 Nov 2008 06:39 PM This last session of General Conference has several talks that focused on how to survive trials. The talks were on spiritual, emotional, and physical trials. They all talked about the importance of being spiritually prepared to handle the hard times that will come into every person's life. They also talked about the importance of being physically prepared for trials. One way to be spiritually prepared is to build a network of people that can help you during difficult times. Sometimes you simply need a shoulder to cry on, or a friend to drop in and check up on you. Other times you may need for tangible means of service during your difficult time. Your family and your ward are both excellent places to begin building this service. It is also important to have strong spiritual reserves on hand to deal with trials. If your testimony is strong, you know that you can turn to the Lord to find the help and comfort that you desperately need. Having strong daily habits of scripture study and personal prayer can do a lot to help build your testimony and give you an automatic place to turn if you are struggling. It is also important to trust in the Lord. He will help you through your trial. You may be given strength to endure the trial or comfort as you face it. In addition to preparing spiritually you need to be prepared physically for the trials that you may face. Difficult economic times make food storage and strong financial reserves imperative. You should take the time now to prepare with at least a three month supply of food, and to get out of debt. Then you should build a reserve of six months of income and a year's supply of food to protect your family from possible job loss or other disasters that may strike. Elder Perry focused on the need to simplify your life to handle these trials. Related Articles: Why Aren't You Preparing?
