Organize Yourselfby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 06 Jul 2007 07:00 PM Lately I have been thinking about having a house of order. This brings to mind Doctrine and Covenants 88:119: "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a hours of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God." We know that the scripture is instructing Joseph Smith on how to organize the church. However, we can also apply this scripture to ourselves and our homes. As I read this scripture again the first part really stood out to me. It is so important that we organize ourselves so that we can successfully teach the gospel to our children and have a peaceful home. There are times when I feel like I just have too much to do to apply the counsel in this scripture directly to my life. However, when I take the time to pray, fast, and learn I am better able to do the things that I need to in my role as wife as mother. When I spend time reflecting on my faith, counting my blessings, recognizing God's hand in my life and giving glory to Him, I have a greater happiness and peace in my life, which carries over to my family. Once I have established and maintain the habits of personal scripture study and prayer, it is so much easier to make sure that we have effective family prayer. My family scripture study is much better when I have spent the time learning and pondering the principles in the scriptures so I can talk about them to my children. This principle can carry over into the overall peace in my house. When I am happy and at peace I have more energy to keep my house in order. I am also able to help my children appreciate the many blessings that they have. It is so important to take the time to organize yourself so that you can better meet the needs of your family.
