A Heart Happy General Conference Weekend

This past weekend was general conference, and it was a lovely weekend full of laziness and spiritual inspiration. I have a bad cold I’ve been battling for a few days, so I was thankful to be able to stay in my PJs and watch conference at home. I love general conference. Sometimes, I don’t get to hear every talk, or I may doze off, and only hear half of it. Other times, I may not truly “listen” to the speakers that aren’t the apostles or prophet, but there was a talk in the Sunday afternoon session that somehow stuck with me. A Christmas Party for $40

For those of you who were reading about my progress in planning our ward Christmas party, I must give an update! It was actually a huge success. So much so that I’m hoping they don’t think I should be in charge of this every year. Have you read the talk by Elder Dennis E. Simmons of the Seventy titled, But if Not? I was prompted to go look it up and read it after our lesson in Gospel Doctrine a couple of Sundays ago. It is a great talk, and I highly recommend reading it. The Old Testament is not my favorite. But, through studying it this year, I’ve learned some valuable lessons from those prophets of old. I heard a talk in sacrament meeting this past Sunday that got me thinking. Actually, it was one particular aspect of this talk that really caught my attention. The speaker had been talking about how he was looking through some old journals of his from several years ago, and was not happy to see that he was still struggling today with the same problems that he was trying to overcome several years ago. Ways to Study General Conference Talks

In my current ward, they have an incentive for the Relief Society sisters to re-read all the General Conference talks before the next General Conference-Food! It’s really a genius idea. They reward the sisters that re-read all of the Conference talks in the Ensign with a breakfast before the next General Conference starts. This is the first time I have ever seen this done in a ward, and I’m loving the idea. I am amazed at how the Lord is continually watching over me. Why does it still amaze me? I’ve been a faithful LDS member for my whole life. I’ve seen His hand in my life over and over again.
