Enjoying the Journey: Steps to Finding Joy Now – Jaime Theler with Deborah Talmadge

Life is full of trials and difficulties, yet we are promised that we will have joy in the eternities if we focus on being obedient and enduring to the end. That’s a beautiful promise, but getting through the here and now is a daunting task. Why must we wait until the eternities before we can experience joy? In the new LDS nonfiction book “Enjoying the Journey,” authors Jaime Theler and Deborah Talmadge tell us that we don’t have to wait. We can have joy now, even while we are living on this earth and experiencing our trials. In the chapter … Continue reading

No Counterfeit for Peace

The other night, I sat working with my daughter on her Faith in God requirements, one of which is to read several scriptures pertaining to the Holy Ghost and then discuss the role of the Holy Ghost in our lives. She underlined the passages, and then next to one of them wrote in the margin, “The Holy Ghost never lies.” I’ve been thinking about that perceptive comment ever since. The Holy Ghost works hand in hand with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As the third member of the Godhead, He is one with them in unity and purpose, all … Continue reading

Be Ye Therefore Perfect

As a member of the church, I’ve always known that the phrase perfection, or some form of it appears multiple times in the scriptures. We need to “be ye therefore perfect”, or “be perfected in Christ”. I am not going to deny that hearing that perfection is the ultimate goal can feel very depressing. An article by, Janet S. Scharman, in BYU Magazine was shared on a friend’s blog. The title of the article of course peaked my interest, “Seeking Perfection Without Being a Perfectionist”. I thought, I definitely need to read that! So, I did. And, it was a … Continue reading

RS/EQ: God, the Eternal Father

The second lesson in the Joseph Smith manual for this year’s course of study is entitled “God, the Eternal Father.” We begin by looking at Joseph’s upbringing. His parents were deeply spiritual and the Bible was read regularly by everyone within the household. Joseph had knowledge of the basic character of God from his earliest years. He was accustomed to family prayers and to calling upon the name of God in thanksgiving and for mercy. When it came time for him to pray and to receive the First Vision, prayer was not unfamiliar to him. Joseph Smith taught that God … Continue reading

Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 12:11-18

Nephi is beholding a vision that is shown to him by the hand of the angel of the Lord. He has seen the coming of the Savior, born of a virgin, and he has seen that Lamb slain for the sins of the world. He has seen the wars that will break out between his seed and the seed of his brethren, and he has seen that Christ will come to the New World and choose out twelve righteous men to be his apostles. 11. And the angel said unto me: Look! And I looked, and beheld three generations pass … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review September 1-September 7

We’ve had a great week here in the LDS section of Families.com. In case you missed any blogs, here is a recap: In “Humbled or Picked On?” Tristi talked about the meaning of humility and how being humble in our trials can bring us closer to Christ. In “Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 33,” Miriam told us the study focus for our children for the week, in the different age groups. In “Asking Heavenly Father for Help,” Tristi discussed the reasons why we need to pray for help instead of just expecting it to appear. In “The Physical Laws in Spirituality,” … Continue reading

The Idols We Choose For Ourselves

In ancient days, men and women showed their devotion to their gods by holding sacrifices in their honor. Those gods were often symbolized by idols, either in the form of the god or in a shape the god would find pleasing. With the coming of Jesus Christ, mankind was taught that idol worship is wrong, and that there is only one true God. As Latter-day Saints, we don’t erect statues of gold or bronze to honor our gods – we recognize that our God wants a different kind of sacrifice, that of a broken heart and a contrite spirit. But … Continue reading

Author Interview — Robison Wells

Today we are joined by author Robison Wells, a rising star on the LDS suspense horizon. Rob, thanks for taking the time to grant us this exclusive interview. Your new release, “The Counterfeit,” is the sequel to “ Wake Me When It’s Over,” which I recently reviewed. Do you have to read “ Wake Me When It’s Over” in order to enjoy “The Counterfeit?” Technically you don’t. I’ve gone to great lengths to make it as stand-alone as possible, recapping the essentials of what happened in “Wake Me When It’s Over.” However, I think readers would enjoy “The Counterfeit” much … Continue reading
