Need A Spiritual Boost?

I have spoken before about my experience attending Time Out for Women a few years ago. It is a great way to re-charge spiritually and get that extra boost you need to continue on your way at being a better mom, wife, and daughter of God. I loved the talks, and treasure the notes I took during them. I read them every once in a while to remember the spiritual thoughts I had during those talks. I especially loved hearing Hillary Weeks. One of my favorite LDS artists. But, we can’t always make it to TOFW can we? Well, I … Continue reading

YouTube Can Be Your Spiritual Uplift

I was on YouTube looking for something, and a video caught my attention. it was titled, LDS Missionaries Coming Home Mix. I watched it and was touched. Being a return missionary myself, I know the kinds of emotions that you can feel stepping off that plane and back into real life again. It’s hard, but at the same time, you are so excited to see the people you love and miss most in the whole world! It made those feelings come back again, and gave me a little spiritual boost to watch it. I started browsing other videos. As you … Continue reading

Boost Your Brain Power With Meditation

Your brain is like a muscle. Without exercise, it can begin to weaken — just like any muscle. Researchers from Harvard University have been studying the effects of meditation on brain erosion, with surprising results. In your early 20s, your brain begins to erode — specifically the areas that deal with decision making, attention span, and memory. The Harvard study compared the MRI scans of people who meditated daily with those of people who did not meditate at all. The long-time meditators had thicker brains in the areas that eroded in non-meditators: the areas that deal with attention, memory, and … Continue reading

Are You Starving Yourself Spiritually?

Have you ever had a time when you are spiritually starving yourself? You wake up and seem to drag around from day to day. You know that you should read your scriptures and take time to pray every morning, but it just seems like another thing to add to your list. You may be finding that it is harder and harder to motivate yourself to go to church, and you are struggling with your feelings of inadequacy. Do You Record General Conference?

For a few years now, we have recorded general conference. Usually it is because during the Saturday session we might be busy with other things, and always think we will come back to it. Well, this year, we were out of town during general conference, and did not get to hear much except for President Monson’s announcement about missionaries shortly before we lost radio coverage in the car. So, I have been really grateful that we recorded it this year. And, to make it even better, we are actually watching those recordings! My husband had the idea that we would … Continue reading

What Does F.I.T.N.E.S.S. Stand For?

What does F.I.T.N.E.S.S. stand for? “F” stands for functional intensity training (FIT). This is a combination of cardio and weight training. You receive a more well-rounded approach to exercise when you incorporate both. “I” stands for intense. You have to be intense about exercise if you truly want to succeed. Without it, you are going to quickly lose your motivation. “T” stands for try. You need to try new things. If you stick to the same old routine or the same old exercises, you will get bored. Be adventurous. Here are some ideas to help you out: yoga, circuit training, … Continue reading

The Voice of Domestic Peace

Sometimes the most difficult part of becoming more like Christ, is making the small every day changes that are necessary. At least, it is for me. I have had the nagging feeling as of late that I need to be better at a lot of things. Yet, sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the daily task of just accomplishing one of those things. Like, reading my scriptures, for example. My biggest goal right now is working on using a softer tone when I speak to my children. I read the talk, “Except the Lord Build the House…” by Gordon B. Hinkley … Continue reading

Grateful for the Priesthood

One of my children had to have surgery last week. This was a hard experience for me. I have never had any of my kids go to the hospital, much less have to have surgery. We are so blessed to have healthy children. As a part of going through this, there was never a doubt in my mind that I wanted a priesthood blessing for my child. If anything, I knew it would comfort me to know that Heavenly Father was watching over him. The night before, my husband gave my child a blessing. He took the time to ask … Continue reading

LDS Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting

This past weekend I came down with a horrible cold. It peaked on Sunday, of course, making it where I missed my meetings. I was disappointed because I really do love attending church every Sunday. But, I was grateful that I had gone to the Worldwide Leadership Training Broadcast on Saturday. It boosted my spirit, and gave me the spiritual uplift I needed for the upcoming week. If you missed it, or are not currently in a leadership position requiring you to attend, then I strongly encourage you to go watch or listen to it, here. As always, listening to … Continue reading
