Waiter! There’s a Cougar in my Hot Tub!

A South Dakota woman had an unpleasant surprise while soaking in a hot tub one morning — a four-legged visitor. Marlene Todd at first thought it was just her house cat roaming the back deck. Then she realized that the animal in the brush at the side of her hot tub was much larger. She opened her eyes and saw a big, tan, hairy form just inches away. It was a mountain lion. The cougar leaped onto the side of the hot tub. For a moment, woman and wild cat locked eyes, then the mountain lion leaped over the hot … Continue reading

The First Celebrity Power Couple?

Last night, I was watching Smokey and the Bandit. I know it is dated, corny, and politically incorrect, but I remember my parents taking me to the theater to see this 1977 hit movie and I love it to this day. If you have seen it, you may be surprised to know it was actually nominated for an Oscar. Not Best Picture, but Best Film Editing (hey, it is still a nomination!). Anyhow, as I watched it, something struck me. Before there was Bennifer, before there was Brangelina, there was a couple I like to call Burly – Burt Reynolds … Continue reading

Family Travel: When Is It Too Early To Start Planning For Your Next Trip?

My answer: NEVER. Let’s face it, life moves fast. (My two-year-old just told me she needed a new doctor’s kit because the one she has doesn’t have “an otoscope with a light.”) So it’s no wonder with work schedules to plan around, a family budget to juggle, and relatives to appease, I plan for our family vacations months in advance. For example, we just returned from spending a few weeks visiting my parents, grandmother and siblings in Hawaii. While we were out there I began researching family-friendly fall vacation destinations. Here are two, which currently top our list: Grandfather Mountain … Continue reading

BYU Squares Off Against the U

Today is the all-important BYU versus U of U football game. It really is a big deal. Sadly I cannot watch it because the house I am at for the weekend does not receive the station. For those of who grew up in Utah or as diehard BYU fans you may understand what I am talking about. For those of who do no follow football or care nothing for either of the teams then this blog will not matter to you. I grew up in a household with a true blue all the way through BYU football fan—my dad. He … Continue reading

Rules of Engagement –Stephanie Fowers

Welcome to the world of a Brigham Young University co-ed, where the emphasis is supposed to be on education, but is actually on the cute guys in the next dorm. In an atmosphere where dating is the thing to do, it’s hard when all your friends are in serious relationships and you’re, well, not. Samantha Skyler is twenty-five years old, practically an old maid by BYU standards. Her former relationship just didn’t work out, and now she’s looking for the perfect guy. The problem is, how to find him and how to hook him. Her roommates find themselves in similar … Continue reading

BYU Football – Spring Ball

Okay, this is going to be a short one. My last two blogs have been a little bit lengthy. I know BYU football isn’t a category here — but hey, is there anything more intrinsic with the LDS family than BYU sports? Today, my husband and I are going to check out the scrimmage that ends BYU’s Spring Football just before the Blue and White game takes place on Saturday. Why? Because we love BYU football. We’re excited for the year to come and the changes which took place in the coaching staff last year. We have a dear friend … Continue reading
