Featured

Are you tired of getting one word answers from your kids? Are you wondering how to get your kid to finally open up and talk with you? The solution might be one that Kenneth Barish, Ph.D., wrote about for Huffington Post. Give his ideas a try, and see what happens! Frustrated parents should take a minute to read over what Kenneth Barish, Ph.D., wrote in an article titled: “Why Won’t She Talk to Us? How to Have Better Conversations With Your Children”. In it, he explains some of the reasons why kids become uncommunicative with their parents. In short, there … Continue reading

Apply to be a Disney Mom (or Disney Dad)

What’s the ultimate goal of many Disney fanatics? See all the films and television shows? Visit all the parks? Work for the company, at one of the parks or even in the movie division? I know for many, it’s the latter. A lucky few are qualified to really work in making magic: to be an animator, or an Imagineer. Many of us just don’t have the skill set to do much. What kind of job could knowing everything about the Disney parks get us? How about a seat on the Disney Moms Panel? You don’t actually get paid to be … Continue reading

Use Your Genealogy Research to Help Others

The genealogy research that you do is important! You might be creating the only record of your family tree that has ever existed. In addition to learning more about your own family, you can use your genealogy related skills to help out others. Here are a few suggestions about how to do that. There used to be a website called Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, (or RAOGK). It was run by a woman named Bridgett Schneider. The website started in 1999 and ended in 2011 when Bridgett, who was 64 years old, passed away. The original website for RAOGK is … Continue reading

Landscape of Flavors

Given that its opening is coming (relatively) soon, it’s no surprise that the details keep pouring in about Disney World’s forthcoming Art of Animation resort. The latest Disney Parks blog post on the hotel focuses on its Landscape of Flavors food court. I love reading about food, so I’m excited to learn more. Of course the announcement of Landscape of Flavors is all a bit grand. It plays up the restaurant, making it seem like a unique and innovative new approach to dining. Perhaps it is for restaurants in Disney World hotels. All I know is it almost kind of … Continue reading

State Farm Ad Reminds Gamers of Portal 2 Robot

Have you seen the new State Farm commercial? At first glance, it reminded me of the “War of the Worlds” movies. People who play the game Portal 2, though, think they see a strong resemblance between the robot in the State Farm commercial, and a robot named “Atlas” in the video game. You may have seen the series of commercials from State Farm which involve a State Farm agent who somehow has obtained genie-like powers. These commercials feature a group of young adults, one of whom has purchased the protection of State Farm insurance. Something goes wrong, and instead of … Continue reading

FOOD FIGHT! Target Expands Groceries to Keep Up With Walmart

I love Target’s coupons. Their website is one of the best for giving you printable Target coupons which really save you money. I love the merchandise, the convenience, and even the cashiers who don’t always understand couponese. I have only one problem with every Target I have visited that is not a Super Target. There just isn’t enough on the shelves in grocery, cleaning, and health and beauty. They run out of things. There isn’t much variety. Sometimes they don’t have the very items their website generates coupons for. Groceries and items that we buy with coupons have not been … Continue reading

Reach Out to Help Others

Recently I had a conversation with one of my friends about the importance of giving back. It started as a discussion on the economy, and the dismal way it seemed to be going, and then it turned to the extravagant lifestyles that so many people seem to be embracing. We then talked about how we could help those around us. She mentioned a project she had completed in another town where she cut hair for the poor children whose parents couldn’t afford to get them a new outfit and school supplies for school. This is a great way to reach … Continue reading

Are You Being Taken Advantage Of or Helping Others?

It can be difficult to draw the line between serving others and being taken advantage of. This is especially difficult when it comes to members of the church. I am not speaking of teaching an occasional class or serving in a church calling, but of the times you are asked to help out in some way. Too often others assume because you are in the same ward, that you will offer a discount or do it for free. It can be difficult to deal with this situation. I have known people who expect plumbers to come over and fix major … Continue reading

We Are a Worldwide Church

What does it mean to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide church? It means that every Sunday, Saints around the globe are meeting together to worship our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, just as we are here. No matter where they live and where they meet, be it a hut, a nice church building, or a member’s home, they are singing the hymns we sing and hearing the lessons we hear. If you take a trip and visit a ward or branch somewhere else, you will find everything administrated just as it is … Continue reading
