Organize Yourself

Lately I have been thinking about having a house of order. This brings to mind Doctrine and Covenants 88:119: “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a hours of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” We know that the scripture is instructing Joseph Smith on how to organize the church. However, we can also apply this scripture to ourselves and our homes. As I read this scripture again the first part really stood out to me. It … Continue reading

Making the Most of Your Saturdays

My husband often complains that he does not really get a weekend. It can be frustrating to find time to do things with family over the weekend, especially if you are attending church and keeping the Sabbath day holy. We both love that Sunday is a day that we set aside to honor the Lord, but it does make Saturday a little bit more hectic than it could be if we had two days to accomplish everything we want to on Saturday. As a mother to three young children, there is rarely a Sunday that I do not come home exhausted from church. At times I wonder if all of my hard work is worth it, but I know that it is. Since church attendance is anything but peaceful right now, I find that I need to do more at home on Sunday to help me find that … Continue reading

Happy Fourth of July! Regardless of where you may be celebrating this Independence Day here’s hoping your festivities are safe and memorable. If you are one of the fearless ones you may be braving the crowds at some of the nation’s most popular historic attractions (think Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Mount Rushmore, etc.). However, if you are like me you will be spending your Fourth at home with a family cookout and backyard fireworks and making plans to visit some historic attractions when the holiday crowds dissipate. If so, here are a few you might want to consider: In a … Continue reading

LDS Family Week in Review: May 20th – 26th

We had another great week in the LDS Families blog. We took a look at our Gospel Doctrine lesson and expanded our horizons a bit. Gospel Doctrine: This week’s Sunday School lesson is entitled “Thy Faith Hath Saved Thee.” It covered a variety of ways that people expressed their faith in the Lord and were spiritually saved because of it. In Cry Day and Night, we discussed how prayer affects us. In Men Ought Always to Pray, we talked about how to pray without fainting. In They…Rebuked Him, we talked about how other people might affect our relationship with God … Continue reading
