Temple Open House in Brigham City

On September 23rd, another Utah temple will be dedicated. The Brigham City temple. For that day, church services will be cancelled in Utah and surrounding areas so that members ages 8 and up can attend a broadcast of the temple dedication. As we were listening to this announcement in church on Sunday, my husband said to me that we should make it a priority to take our children to the open house before the dedication. I loved this idea. Our children are little, and will not be able to attend the temple for some time. They have never seen the … Continue reading

Temple Square

I feel so blessed to live in Utah. Not growing up here, I try hard not to take for granted the wonderful history that surrounds me and the beautiful Salt Lake City Temple that I get to see, and attend regularly. As a family, we are starting to have a little tradition to take our kids who are now 4 and almost 2 downtown to walk around temple square. We live within about a five minute drive, and it is easy for us to go down there, walk around for about 30 minutes, and let our kids get tired before … Continue reading

The Temple is Not the End of the Road

From the time our children are born, we teach them about the importance of the temple. We want to impress upon them the sacred nature of that beautiful building and inspire them to marry there for time and all eternity. When the day arrives and you see your child, dressed in white, take the hand of the one they have chosen and become man and wife, you sigh with contentment. Mission accomplished. However, this is where we get into trouble. Far too many of our young people are of the belief that if they get married in the temple, all … Continue reading

Gospel Questions: What Are Temples?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has built over a hundred beautiful temples all around the world. With spires reaching toward the heavens, these buildings look like mighty cathedrals. What is the purpose of the temple? The temple is a holy place where the Spirit of God feels free to dwell. Only the finest materials are used in the construction. The building is dedicated to the worship of God, and while there, patrons make promises to Heavenly Father and renew the promises they’ve already made. A feeling of peace pervades the atmosphere as the patrons put aside their … Continue reading

Sunday School: Temple and Family History Work, An Overview

For the last several weeks, I haven’t gone to Gospel Doctrine. I’m not sluffing, I promise. I’ve been attending the Temple and Family History Work class. My husband is the ward temple committee chairman, and so he works closely with the family history library that’s located in our building. In concert with the others called to similar positions, they work to educate the ward about the importance of family history work, and part of that education is the Temple and Family History Work class. The curriculum for the class is fairly simple and straightforward and is found in the booklet … Continue reading
