Living Your Life Deliberately

I heard a talk in sacrament meeting this past Sunday that got me thinking. Actually, it was one particular aspect of this talk that really caught my attention. The speaker had been talking about how he was looking through some old journals of his from several years ago, and was not happy to see that he was still struggling today with the same problems that he was trying to overcome several years ago. This happens to so many of us. We become complacent in our spirituality. He said one thing thought that really made me think. He said “You’ve got … Continue reading

Keeping Your Faith at College – Part 2

Last month I looked at keeping your faith at college. I’m going to make a few more suggestions in this area today. Don’t cut yourself off from opportunities. Just because you’ve always belonged to one denomination doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the right one for you. When our daughter went to university she, like a few others, I know found she was not fitting in to the Anglican Church she attended. She got lost in the sheer size of the congregation and found it hard to mix. After a while she opted out and went along to a Baptist church which … Continue reading

The New LDS.Org

Beginning November 30th, the church website will be switching over to the new LDS.org. Have you checked that out yet? One of the features I have started playing around with is the scripture study tools online. In the days of the Blackberry, IPhone, and countless other devices that we have to pull up our scriptures online, this is a pretty cool new feature. You have to create a log in ID to access these features. This is quick and easy, but you may need your membership number to do it. I did mine a long time ago, but if you … Continue reading

7 Tips for a Good Marriage

When I told my husband I didn’t know what I was going to write for today’s blog, he suggested. ‘Five tips for a good marriage.’ ‘Okay, tell me what they are,’ I replied. ‘Pick a good wife,’ Mick said with a smile. ‘That’s only one,’ I objected. ‘Where are the rest?’ ‘There’s always the two key words,’ he said, trying to keep a straight face. I knew without him saying it what the two words were. It’s a standing joke in our house. The words? ‘Yes dear.’ Can you tell sometimes he finds it hard to be serious! So of … Continue reading

J is For

We’ve looked at what TLC is and the changes that need to happen in our lives if we are to get our priorities right this year. But what about another important letter – J. Yes, it could stand for Jesus. It could also stand for joy. In John 15, Jesus talked to His disciples and He talks to us today too, about abiding in His Word and letting His Word abide in us, verse 7. Jesus talks about prayer, verse 7 and bearing fruit, verse 8. He talks of his great love for his disciples and us, verse 9. Then … Continue reading

Is My Child Ready to Read?

This has been a topic that I’ve been pondering recently for a few reasons. The first is that one of my twins is highly verbal and has a fairly impressive set of preschool skills that she’s acquired while I’m busy not doing preschool. Friends and some family are a little surprised that I still maintain that formalized preschool, even at home, is not the direction I want to go, even with a gifted child. Music, art, play, and literature abound, but preschool in my house will always be optional. The second thing that has me pondering this question is the … Continue reading

More Frugal Decorating at the Dollar Store

Again we look to the dollar store for inspiration and design elements to decorate our home in a more frugal way. Just because you live a lifestyle where money in the bank is better than money spent, does not mean you cannot fund a home decorating project for a little less. Have some fun with dollar store items and even just a touch might add that special something that makes the room better for you. There are dozens of items that you can either purchase as is, or alter and make more decorative once you bring it home. Items such … Continue reading
