LDS Family Services Website

The other day, I was searching for some enlightenment, for someone I know is going through a hard time right now. I decided to hop onto LDS Family Services website to see what I could find that might be helpful. I found a fountain of information that I thought I had to share with others. There are adoption services links, and addiction recovery links, but I was looking more for someone that I knew was struggling with emotional turmoil in their life. So, I went to counseling services. After clicking on that, I saw a link, Find help for your … Continue reading

Arizona Genealogy Resources

The state motto of Arizona is “Ditat Deus” which is Latin. In English, it translates to “God Enriches”. Many genealogists feel that their lives are enriched by what they have learned about their ancestors. Those who have ancestors who lived in Arizona will find these Arizona Genealogy resources to be very useful. FamilySearch has a Wiki page that is called “Arizona Birth, Marriage, and Death Records”. It has information about how and where to search for these types of vital records. Did you know that Arizona is a “closed record” state? This means birth records that are less than 75 … Continue reading

Budget Busting Babies

Have you ever sat down and calculated how much money you’ve spent raising your child? Think about it; if you crunched the numbers from the moment you first discovered you were pregnant until today, the amount of cash you’ve likely dropped on your precious bundle of joy probably exceeds five figures. It’s no surprise that the cost associated with raising kids is a hot topic among parents. So much so that you can visit just about any baby-centric website these days and calculate how much a child will set you back financially. For example, Babycenter.com features a handy dandy calculator … Continue reading

Pot Luck Wake Up Call

I’ve been a Mormon my whole life, and therefore, I know what a pot luck is. I love a good pot luck. I do. But, it seems like in this day and age, when we know so much more about health, and food, that we should be having a little bit healthier food at our potlucks. Don’t you think? Every time we have a ward get together it seems we have the same thing…little smokies, small chicken salad sandwiches on white bread, cream cheese roll up surprise, and a fruit plate. Then, let’s not even mention the lots and lots … Continue reading

GenealogyFreelancers and Tpstry Team Up

What happens when two genealogy websites decide to form a partnership? The result usually gives genealogists a wider range of access to the information they need in order to do their research. It often means that those who were already using one of the two websites suddenly enjoy the benefit of new services or features that were not accessible before. GenealogyFreelancers and Tpstry.com have recently made a partnership. GenealogyFreelancers is a website that connects professional genealogists with amateur genealogists who are looking for assistance with their genealogy projects. If you are seeking help with building your family tree, you can … Continue reading

It Will All Work Out

I have been thinking a lot about this topic lately. Maybe it is because in some ways, I see this blog, as a form of therapy for myself. And, when we learn things, it is best to share them with other that also might benefit. I ran across an article from the September 1990 Ensign that really spoke to me. As members of the church, we still face mental health problems. I am not speaking of the more serious mental health issues that require professional counseling, or medication, but the mental health issues that we might just be able to … Continue reading

What Problems Do Parents of Russian Adoptees Face?

Most of the world is justly horrified by the fact that Torry Hansen sent her adopted Russian son back to Russia. I admit I don’t know how I would respond if my child threatened to kill me. But as I said in my blog on Wrongful Adoption lawsuits, once an adoption is final, the parent-child relationship is final. If my biological child suffers brain trauma and becomes a danger to others, he may have to live in a residential treatment center, but I would still visit him, try to assist in his healing process, contribute financially to him as much … Continue reading

What is Humanitarian Parole?

My last blog spoke of hundreds of orphans whose adoptions were in progress at the time of the earthquake being granted “humanitarian parole”. Humanitarian parole is a temporary admittance to the U.S. granted on an individual basis when immediate travel to the U.S. is believed to be necessary to “ensure the care the individual requires”. Perhaps we are most familiar with the term applying to children who need medical treatment unavailable in their home countries, whether they are in the process of being adopted or only seeking to be in the U.S. while under medical care. As I mentioned in … Continue reading

Visiting a Different Ward

When you are on vacation, you have a choice to make. You can take the time to attend church or you can skip it. It is really easy to find a ward in your area and attend the meeting. It sets a good example to your children, and it allows you to still remember the Savior even when you are on vacation. Visiting a different ward can be a bit scary, but it is not too hard. First you simply need to find the time and place that the ward meets. You can do this before you leave by going … Continue reading
