Christmas Is More Fun With Kids

Christmas is hilarious with a toddler in tow. It’s fun to watch them figure out what’s going on, and once they catch on to the whole concept of presents, they can’t contain their excitement. We have been laughing at our son’s confusion about gifts. He seems to think that everything under the tree is fair game. Last night he opened up his uncle’s girlfriend’s present when we weren’t looking and she wasn’t even there. It’s also funny how he handles the presents he receives. Once he opens up his toys, he tries to play with them all at once. Last … Continue reading

Baby-Proofing The Christmas Tree

I’ve been brainstorming a lot lately about our Christmas tree. With a toddler in the house, whom we affectionately call our “little monkey,” there are extra precautions to be taken to make sure that our Christmas tree is safe, both to and from our child. We don’t want our tree hurting our son, and we don’t want our son hurting the tree. The easiest way is to create a physical barrier in the form of a play yard baby gate, which can be wrapped around the tree. The only problem with this, though, is it is not exactly visually appealing, … Continue reading

The Ward Christmas Party-Evolution of an Idea

So, I met with our bishopric this week to discuss our ward Christmas party this year. It is starting to take a little shape. I’m still excited about the idea, but it is a lot of work too! This is what we have planned for sure. We will start with a sit down dinner first. We have lots of elderly people in our ward, so we thought it would be nice to have servers at the dinner. This will most likely be our youth. We will pre-assemble the plates and pass those out so that people can sit and listen … Continue reading

Simple Snow Day Crafts for Kids

For parents, who have been affected by this week’s dangerously cold Artic blast, today marks the third day in a row that your kids have been cooped up indoors. By now your sanity may be as compromised as your video library. If so, you might consider the following simple craft ideas. They may not be as liberating as a sunny 80 degree day, but they will keep your kids busy for a few hours and perhaps preserve the last remaining hairs on your head. Christmas Fireside Suggestions

A wonderful fireside to have during the Christmas season is one that focuses on Christmas music. This is an easy fireside to set up and it welcomes in the spirit so easily. These ideas can also be adapted to work as a sacrament meeting to celebrate Christmas. You can have a formal fireside with one or two speakers and musical numbers planned. You may have the choir sing, and then contact other groups to have them perform as well. This is a great fireside that can involve many people in your ward. It is also a great time to invite … Continue reading

Creating New Christmas Traditions

When you are first married, you may find yourself pulled here and there juggling between two different families, but when your kids become a bit older, it is a good idea to carve out your own family traditions. There are a variety of things you can do over the holidays to create memories that will last forever. Christmas caroling is one tradition that seems to have fallen out of style lately, but it is a great way to spread the holiday cheer. You can carol in your neighborhood, in your ward, or at a hospital or nursing home. You can … Continue reading

How to Make Christmas Gifts with a Toddler and Preschooler

Last night we decided to wander around a few area stores to see if the rumored discounts were really as good ad we were lead to believe. One of your stops was Target, where we scoped out some gifts for our youngest child, who always seems to get the shortest end of the stick when it comes to new toys and clothes. I also needed to pick up a secret santa gift. Our middle child, the preschooler, really wanted to pick out some gifts for the rest of the family. Some of the ideas she had included a new bed … Continue reading

LDS Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids

If you are looking for a great Christmas gift for your child or grandchild, but would love to stick to an LDS theme, there are several great gifts available. These gifts may be great as a secondary gift to another more traditional Christmas gift. These also make great contributions to a Sunday toy box or a quiet time activity during Sacrament meeting. One great gift is the Brick of Mormon book to your children. This is a fun book that includes photographs of the different stories made out of Legos. Each of the pictures has a synopsis of the scripture … Continue reading

My Mother’s Day Photo Surprise—The Gift that Keeps on Giving

I know, Father’s Day is just around the corner so why I am writing about my Mother’s Day gift? For starters, it’s an incredible gift and one that could easily be given to dad on his big day as well. The other reason… I wanted to experiment with my gift for a couple of weeks before writing this blog so I would be better able to assess its pros and cons. So what was my big Mother’s Day surprise (besides the gorgeous pink rose my young daughter picked out all by herself to give to me)? Canon’s PowerShot A720 IS … Continue reading
