Today, June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court revealed its decision about the Affordable Care Act, (which some call “Obamacare”). The Affordable Care Act, or ACA, was signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010. The full name of this series of health reform regulations is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It is sometimes shortened into PPACA. Many people refer to this series of health reform laws as “Obamacare”. All of these … Continue reading

I Just Want To Scream

As a single parent I’m learning every day. The biggest lesson I’ve learned, and the one I struggle with most is that I don’t always have to be strong. It’s ok to admit that I need help. This so hard for me, as I think it is for most single parents. After experiencing a failed marriage we feel like failures. That thought haunts us so we feel like we always have to have it together when it comes to parenting our children. Admitting that you need help is almost like admitting failure and when it comes to our kids, we … Continue reading

Just Breathe

Every day can feel like a race against time. There is so much to do and only you to do it. If I sit and talk on the phone for fifteen minutes I feel like I’ve wasted time so I’m usually multi tasking while on the phone. I can cook, clean, fold laundry, work on a craft project, surf the net looking for blog ideas all while talking on the phone. It’s not a skill that can go on my resume but it’s one I’ve needed for the last nine years of being a single parent. There just isn’t time … Continue reading

When you have a home – based business, you are responsible not only for producing the products or services that the business provides but also for the operation of the entire business. One major aspect of managing your home – based business is managing your work load. When you have a service – based business (or businesses) like I do, you are responsible for deciding how many of which kind of projects you have on … Continue reading

General Conference 2011-The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn

I am not one to do a lot of genealogy myself. Although, I do understand the importance of it. My patriarchal blessing talks about it, and I write a lot about it here. But, I do not do a lot of things to research names, and progress the work. I always think that is something I will have time to do when I’m a little older. But, what if that time never comes? Elder Bednar’s talk in General Conference was about just that. He spoke of not putting off our genealogy by saying it is something we will do when … Continue reading

Tennessee Insurers Must Cover Hearing Aids for Kids

As of January 1, 2012, health insurance companies in Tennessee are required to cover the cost of hearing aids for all children who need them. This will help parents of children who have hearing loss to be able to afford new hearing aids when their child needs them. The new law connects to a previous law that involves determining how well children hear. Health insurance is strange. In the past, some health insurance companies were refusing to provide coverage to children who had a pre-existing condition. Recently, regulations were made into law that requires all health insurance companies to cover … Continue reading

Adjusting Your Home Based Business to Meet Your Needs

One of the benefits of working from home is that as your needs change, you can change your work to fit them. The changes can be large or small, gradual or sudden, but the point is that you are in control of what you do when and for whom. This means that you have the power to make changes if you realize that doing things differently will be beneficial for you and for your family. During the time that I have been a home-based professional, I have made some changes to my work. Some things have remained constant, but some … Continue reading

Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before…

All parents work hard at being a parent. It’s not easy to give up hours of sleep because your child needed you, and then head into work the next morning. It can be frustrating to have your child going through a “difficult stage”, no matter if that stage is due to age, personality, or just the result of a really bad day. When your child is in a public place, and behaving in ways that make people stop and stare, it can be completely embarrassing, for you, the parent. These are the moments when you are going to be the … Continue reading

I am a Mormon Mommy blogger. I am not famous in the blogging world, but I have a handful of friends that like to read what I post. Just What I Needed to Hear

I am amazed at how the Lord is continually watching over me. Why does it still amaze me? I’ve been a faithful LDS member for my whole life. I’ve seen His hand in my life over and over again. Yet, every time it happens, I am still amazed. This past weekend, I had a little meltdown. I had a moment where I was feeling discouraged. I was feeling like I was lacking so much. I felt like I would never measure up. I was feeling this way about being a Mom. I was feeling like that no matter how hard … Continue reading
