President Hinckley Honored in Special Supplement to the Ensign

The passing of our beloved prophet Gordon B. Hinckley has affected all of us deeply. We remember him with fondness, his sense of humor, his unerring commitment to the right, his dedication to the Church through years and years of service. The magazine staff at the Ensign has put together another special way to commemorate the life and accomplishments of this wonderful man. Included with the Ensign this month was a smaller magazine entitled, “In Memoriam: President Gordon B. Hinckley.” The first page of the supplement tells us of the young Gordon’s introduction into Church service. Immediately after returning from … Continue reading

President Monson to Succeed President Hinckley

The church announced today that Thomas S Monson will succeed President Hinckley as the prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has chosen President Henry B Eyring to be his first counselor and President Dieter F Uchtdorf as the second counselor. President Boyd K Packer is the new president of the Quorum of the Twelve. In the past he was only acting president since President Monson was serving in the first presidency. The succession of the prophet is an orderly process that has happened from the beginning of the church. I have always enjoyed … Continue reading

President Hinckley Challenge

I’m a bit of an e-mail junkie, but I don’t generally do a lot of forwards or participate in chain e-mails and things of that nature. However, today I got an e-mail that touched me, and I jumped right on the bandwagon. With the recent passing of our beloved prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, many of us are taking the time to ponder his life, his messages, the impact he had on us, and the legacy he left. He is remembered for temples, for his positive media interaction, for his forward thinking. He brought about the Conference Center, which has a … Continue reading

In Honor of President Gordon B Hinckley

Yesterday evening President Gordon B Hinckley passed away. He is a man that will truly be missed for his wonderful talks, insight and guidance of the church. In many ways I look at President Hinckley as the prophet who has affected me most in my life. I was just a junior in high school when he was sustained as a prophet, but even as a young child I loved to hear him speak. Every General conference I would look forward to his insight and guidance. As an adult, it is amazing at how he touched on topics that I needed … Continue reading

Teaching Our Children to Sustain the Prophet

A friend of mine e-mailed over the new photograph of the First Presidency, and I saved it to my desktop. This morning, my two sons saw it and asked about it, and I explained who the men are. They both showed immediate interest in the man who is our new prophet. A few minutes later, I overheard my six-year-old say, “If I have a flag when that new man dies, I’ll fly it half way up and half way down.” “That’s right,” my nine-year-old said. “Because he’s a good man, just like President Hinckley.” “What was his name again?” the … Continue reading

First Presidency Message: We Testify of Jesus Christ

Our Ensign this month is a beautiful issue with a vellum cover, completely devoted to testifying and worshipping our Savior. The First Presidency Message is from President Gordon B. Hinckley and is entitled, “We Testify of Jesus Christ.” What a fitting theme for this Easter month. Jesus Christ was born in Judea two thousand years ago to Mary and her husband, Joseph, while yet the Son of God, and was presented at the temple to Simeon and Anna. He conversed with the priests at the temple, was tempted by Satan, and was prepared in every way for His ministry here … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review – January 28th – February 2nd

We’ve had a great week here in LDS. In case life got busy and you weren’t able to check in as often as you would have liked, here is a summary that will get you caught up. Tristi kicked off a new series about senior missionaries in “We’re Having a Senior Moment.” Tristi’s mother is serving a mission in England and just left, and Tristi will walk us through the process of becoming a senior missionary and tell us about the joys and the pitfalls. Miriam paid a beautiful tribute to Gordon B. Hinckley, our beloved prophet who passed away … Continue reading

Senior Missionary Series: The Need for Senior Missionaries

The Missionary Training Center recently announced the one millionth missionary to go forth since the formation of the Church. What a remarkable accomplishment. How wonderful to think of all those elders and sisters dedicating a portion of their time to share the gospel. When we think of missionaries, we generally think of young men of nineteen and young women of twenty-one. However, there is a great need in the Church for senior missionaries, not only couples, but senior sisters as well. I quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley: “Along with the need for young elders and sisters, there is a … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 44

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson 44 in the manuals. The Junior Primary and Nursery classes are a week behind. You may want to incorporate the importance of giving and helping others as well as the true meaning of Christmas into your discussion. You can also create a good deed jar that you contribute to each day. You can each write down one nice thing you did for somebody each day and put it in the jar. If you have a child in Nursery he learned that we have a prophet on the earth today. He learned the … Continue reading
