Signs You’re A Sick Mormon Mom

I spent most of last week in bed, sick as a dog. Of course, this gave me plenty of time to consider clues that you’re an ill Latter-day Saint (assuming, of course, you don’t realize it while you are puking in the toilet). Okay, that’s a lie – last week, I didn’t really think about the blog. But I’ve had time to think since then, and here are just a few signs! 1. You’ve found yet another good reason to have kids over a wide age range. Now your oldest kids can take care of the younger ones while you … Continue reading

How to Tell You’re A Mormon Mom

Everyone wants to be a Mormon mom, even if they never admit it. Right? Well, that’s what we tell ourselves. (Suddenly, Goldie Hawn’s line in “Overboard” is running through my head: “Everyone wants to be me!”) Well, Mother’s Day is coming up soon. Here are the top ten ways to tell that you are a real, live LDS mother (you know, as opposed to those fake Mormon Moms walking around out there). 1. You can do amazing and even healthy things with lime jello. 2. You haven’t been able to fast since before your first child was born, due to … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: “Women of Righteousness”

In a devotional address given at BYU on March 13, 2001, Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve addressed the role of women, and how God views them. This was a wonderful talk that I, as a stay-at-home mom, particularly took to heart. It is very uplifting and, as Elder Ballard stated, good for both women and men to read and ponder. He begins by quoting a letter sent to church headquarters from an LDS woman who felt as though she were living a lie. Despite a strong testimony of the gospel, she doubted her value beyond … Continue reading

Ten Signs Your Youth is Off to EFY

If you have LDS teens, then you know all about EFY (Especially For Youth). It’s a wonderful opportunity for your teens to grow spiritually. Or, it is a fantastic chance to broaden the dating pool. The definition, of course, depends on who you ask (and who they are responding to). If you don’t keep up with the calendar, your teen can give you some great signs that EFY is fast approaching. 1. They ask if they can go ahead and purchase some nice school clothes now, instead of waiting for fall. They want to look their best! 2. Suddenly, your … Continue reading

Glad for Dad!

Have you ever noticed that fathers generally tend to be the more rambunctious parent? I’m not sure if it’s because moms are with their kids more, or moms are just always trying to get their kids to sleep (me, I start anticipating bedtime around 11 in the morning!). It seems like all that my husband has to do to get my three oldest to bounce off the walls is to walk in the door. The newborn isn’t jumping around yet, but I have full confidence in my husband’s many talents; by the time she’s six months, I’m sure she’ll act … Continue reading

Honor Your Wife

It is important that you take time to honor your wife on Mother’s Day. Whether or not you have any children, your wife is a very special woman in your life. If you do have children, it is important that you remind them to honor your wife as well. Honoring your wife on Mother’s Day does not necessarily mean that you need to spend money on gifts or flowers (though these things are nice). Honoring your wife really has more to do with the way that you treat her on a daily basis. The words that you use when you … Continue reading

The Ten Best Things about the Annual Father Son Campout

This weekend my husband is taking our son on his first father son campout with the stake. While I worry a bit since my son is only two, I know that he will absolutely love it. It’s a chance for him to spend some quality time with his dad. Plus he will get to look at, touch and possibly eat things that I never would allow. This is a timeless tradition that dates back as far as I can possibly remember. It is in May every year. Here are the ten best things about the father son camp outs. 10. … Continue reading

The LDS Families Week in Review: April 2nd – April 8th

Gospel Doctrine: This week’s Gospel Doctrine covers the upcoming lesson 13, “I Will Give Unto Thee the Keys of the Kingdom,” which involves Matthew 15:21-17:9. In “Great Is Thy Faith”, we examined the faith of the Canaanite woman who asked the Savior to heal her daughter, and how we can press on even when we seem to receive no answer to our pleadings. In The Signs of the Times, we considered the fact that we might look too often for the sensational and miss the small and simple signs of the Lord. In “Flesh and Blood Hath Not Revealed It … Continue reading
