Gratitude

I have been thinking lately of being able to find gratitude in all the situations that I am in. I think that this is a really important skill to develop, although there are times when it is difficult to find something to be grateful for. I have found that it is easier for me to find blessings after a trial is over, then it is for me to find the blessings while I am going through it.

One focus that helps you to find and express gratitude is to enjoy each moment of your life. If you are always focused on where you want to be, then you miss the joy of the moment. Some of my favorite memories of my grandfather came the last six months of his life, as he fought cancer. The normal family events seemed more poignant because we knew to hold them close and treasure them.

As I have mentioned before I have been having a difficult time with trials that my children are facing. It is not easy to find things to be grateful for as I worry about my son growing and caring for my other children. Yet I find myself treasuring the small moments even more. The time I spend with each of my children is precious, and these trials have helped me to realize this even more.

Gratitude is one way that we acknowledge the Lord's hand in our lives. It can help us feel the Lord's love as we look for and recognize all that He has done for us. It is important to take time each day to show our gratitude to the Lord. We can also show gratitude to those around us for the small acts of kindness that happen each day. It is also important to teach our children to find gratitude in each situation. Your example and expressions of gratitude in prayers and to others are great ways to do this.
