Reviewing Your Patriarchal Blessing

When you first get your patriarchal blessing, you may pour over it reading every word, and pondering what your future holds in store for you. You may have recorded your initial feelings and reactions in your journal, And then you tuck it safely away and may forget to come back to review it for a while. I like to review my patriarchal blessing every few months. It is a great way to take stock of where I am, and where I want to be. It really gives me the opportunity to reflect on my life and on what my Heavenly … Continue reading

Gospel Questions: What is a Patriarchal Blessing?

Back in ancient days, there were patriarchs ordained to give blessings to the faithful who desired to know God’s will for them. One such patriarch was Samuel. We read his story in 1 Samuel chapter 16. The Lord told him to look amongst the sons of Jesse for the next king, but he should not look upon the outer appearance, but on the heart. Jesse brought his sons before Samuel, and he sensed that none of them were right. He asked Jesse if there wasn’t one more son, and Jesse explained that his youngest was out with the flocks. They also discussed the things that they can hear. They may have also discussed … Continue reading

I’ll Never Win American Idol

I’ll never win American Idol, or Dancing with the Stars. I can’t twirl a fire baton, tap dance or ballet dance, for that matter. You’ll never see me on America’s Got Talent, the Miss America pageant, or any other stage performing any other sort of stage-type talent. I just don’t have any. In fact, many of us don’t. And many of us feel that because of this, we aren’t talented. We beat ourselves up, wondering why were weren’t one of the chosen. We sit in sacrament meeting, listening to Sister Jones warble out a beautiful hymn with her perfect contralto, … Continue reading
