Gospel Doctrine: The Second Half of the Beatitudes

Although I neglected to blog yesterday, I did study the first half of the Beautidues, which leaves me with the second half (verses 6-12) to cover today. Although I enjoyed the overview I did on Monday, it was wonderful to ponder more fully the blessings and promises given through these seven verses. I’m going to address just a few of them and give you some wonderful corresponding scriptures. On a side note, I found the corresponding footnotes in 3 Nephi 12 to provide a few more scriptures than those found in Matthew. In verse 6, we read that those who … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: An Overview of the Sermon on the Mount

This week, we’re reviewing the first part of the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5. I’m actually going to do an overview of the lesson today, as I have been asked to substitute teach for the class on Sunday. So for today, you get a generalized summary, which we’ll flesh out as the week progresses. First, I would like to take a look at the importance of the Sermon. It is repeated in part in Luke, although not identical. However, the importance is illustrated by the fact that the Savior repeated almost an identical sermon to the Nephites after He … Continue reading

The LDS Families Week In Review: February 25th – March 3rd

We have certainly had a prolific week here at the LDS Family Blog! The blogs have ranged in subject, covering nearly every aspect of the gospel. Let’s take a stroll through just a few of them. Gospel Doctrine (Sunday School) In Pride and Charity, we discussed how we need to be certain that we weren’t doing good works to attract worldly attention. In Divine Communication, we discussed how we can use sincere and heartfelt prayer to draw closer to our Heavenly Father. In Receiving What We Give, we were reminded that as we sow, so shall we reap, whether it … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 8

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson eight in the manuals. You may need to adjust the discussions according to your ward’s schedule. Remember to keep the discussions positive and upbeat. If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about the creation of the day and night. The children are continuing the lessons on the creation. The children discussed the different activities that you do during the day and night. The children also learned about the Nephites and how the night stayed light when Jesus was born. This is a great week to talk about bedtime … Continue reading

The LDS Families Week in Review: February 18th – February 24th

I’m afraid that I didn’t get the regular Relief Society and Sunday School lessons completed this week, due to sporadic Internet access while on the road. I’m going to do a more ‘traditional’ breakdown of the week in review as a result, rather than a breakdown by class. Thankfully, Miriam was on the ball and in a writing frenzy, giving you no lack of things to read! Monday, February 19th: The week started off with a summary of the Sunday School lesson in Gospel Doctrine: An Overview of the Sermon on the Mount. Miriam then provided a fantastic FHE lesson … Continue reading
