Dinner Discussions 2008 April Conference

It is a good idea to incorporate General Conference into your dinner discussions this week. In fact you can continue to do this throughout the year by choosing one talk to review and discuss each week. Remember that you want to keep the discussion upbeat and positive for your family. You may ask each member of your family what his favorite talk was, and then take the time to review each of those talks in particular. For your children this will be the first time that they have a new prophet. You may want to talk about how we sustained … Continue reading

General Conference Videos Now Available

Do you want to review the talks from General Conference? Did you miss a session or fall asleep during a talk? You can hear and watch the video archives of conference now. The video streams are available for each session at the church’s website. Although you can not watch an individual talk, it is easy to fast forward and rewind until you find it. This is a great blessing to have the talks available now. Additionally the church had video streams from its website for the first time in many years. You can also use the video to supplement your … Continue reading

Did You Miss Conference?

Yesterday, we talked about some great steps towards growing from General Conference. However, what if you were unable to attend all four (or five, if you are a priesthood holder) sessions? This is one of those things that I love about the world we live in today – technology. In fact, some of this technology enabled me to keep my three kids (all under the age of six) from terrorizing everyone else during Conference this weekend. There are so many ways that we can listen to Conference today. Audio archives of General Conference are already available on MP3. For more … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review – April 7th-12th

Life just keeps getting busier! If you weren’t able to join us here throughout the week, we have a way for you to catch up. Here is the week in review. We began the week with a review of “The Crayon Messages,” a cute LDS novel about a woman who learns the true meaning of service by carrying out her visiting teaching assignment. We then continued the Scripture Study series with 1 Nephi 15:20-25. The sixth lesson in our Joseph Smith manual teaches us about “The Mission of John the Baptist,” who was sent to prepare the way of Jesus … Continue reading

LDS.org Downloadable Goodies

If you’ve been reading my blogs for more than three minutes, you already know that I’m something of a techongeek. I’d like to share another great download spot, in case you have missed it – the church’s website at www.lds.org. I think I’ve mentioned in the past that you can download the scriptures from the church, but that’s just the tip of the iceburg – albeit, a great tip! First, let me show you how to locate this wealth of information. It is amazingly simple. Type in the church’s web address. On the top left side of the page, you’ll … Continue reading

RS/EQ: Technology, Blessings, and Scriptures

Circumstances did not allow for posting these lessons the weeks they were completed. However, it is my hope that you will still be able to take something from them. This week’s Relief Society and Elder’s Quorum lesson from the Spencer W. Kimball manual focuses on the scriptures. This entire lesson was wonderful; when I read it in December, it strengthened my resolve to study and ponder the scriptures, and put me on the road to a more in-depth study program, despite the tugging of small children on my skirts. In the beginning, President Kimball refers to a talk he heard … Continue reading

BYU Broadcast – What a Resource!

As much as I love the Internet and the possibilities it brings, I find myself constantly amazed at just how much stuff you can really find online. I knew about the church website, and the ability to download Conference and other talks (most notably the Relief Society and Young Women’s annual meetings). But a friend of mine recently clued me in on another site I hadn’t thought to seek out – BYU Broadcast. I actually went to the BYU radio page in search of the talks about Isaiah she had told me existed. But the more I explored, the more … Continue reading

Take Advantage of Your Church Library!

My first calling in the church led me to realize that most members just don’t take sufficient advantage of the branch or ward library. We tend to use it for lesson preparation, and not much else. Occasionally, we might check out a video, though most of the time we only do so for class. But most church libraries are well-equipped, even in smaller branches. What can you find in your ward library? Here are just a few great materials I have utilized over the ten years I have been a member: Books – I’ll start with what should be the … Continue reading
