What is Priestcraft?

We often hear the caution to beware of priestcraft, either practicing it ourselves, or falling prey to those who practice it. Just what is priestcraft, and how can we best follow the counsel to avoid it? In 2 Nephi 26:29, we read: He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts, for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion. Our First Presidency Message for the month of January comes from Thomas S. Monson. He speaks of reading a book called “The Way to the Western Sea” by David S. The Blessings of the Priesthood

I have been blessed to always live in a home that has had the Priesthood. I think when I was in college I learned how much blessed I was to grow up in the home that I did. I also learned that the Priesthood is available to everyone. The church has set up the home teaching program as a way to make the Priesthood available to all.
