Using Play to Get Your Own Way

As some of you who’ve read my other blogs know by now, I tend to let my sense of humor guide me in my parenting. Humor and silliness have been a gift, as far as I’m concerned, and while I certainly get down, frustrated, aggravated and generally annoyed, most of the time I can unearth some humor in even the most scary, challenging parenting adventures. I know, you must be thinking that I have super easy kids for whom a humorous joke or gentle tease are all that’s needed to keep everything humming along with ease and good behavior. In … Continue reading

General Conference Anytime, Anywhere

I love modern technology. Although it can come with pitfalls and problems, it can also bring blessings and make our lives easier. As a mother with three small children, General Conference feels like an extended version of sacrament meeting – I hear little and understand less, all while reminding myself that I’m setting a good example. I am grateful for the technology that allows me to read and listen to Conference long after the closing prayer has been said. Most people know that you can purchase Conference tapes and CDs from LDS bookstores, websites and distribution centers about a month … Continue reading

Sharing the Concept of Preparedness with Others

Preparedness is a concept that we have been taught over and over. Many people outside of our church often regard our preparedness concepts one of those strange things that Mormons do. However, I have found that the times that this is great way to have a discussion and help people around us. I have been approached, by more than one person who knew I was a member, and asked about the concept of preparedness and food storage. Many people embrace this concept as they see how it can benefit them in their lives. One example is the way that the … Continue reading

Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration

This last weekend, my three sisters and I took the opportunity to go up to Salt Lake City to see “Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration” in the Legacy Theater inside the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It was a little hard to find a parking spot – there was a Jazz game that night, and we hadn’t taken that into consideration – but we eventually found a place to park and walked over to the theater. I had not yet seen the film, and neither had another of my sisters. The other two assured us we were in for … Continue reading
